Hey

Just want to know.. Is there such a thing that when using HDMI or DVI (Or just HDMI)

that the auto adjusting on the monitor is disabled?

Cause my friend got a new monitor, using HDMI, and it says it's not able to auto adjust..

So was just wondering who's fault it is..

Thanks

You won't be able to auto-adjust, because the auto adjustment is just for the analog signals (VGA) that requires synchronization.

The advantage of DVI & HDMI over VGA is that you don't have to auto-adjust, because the picture should fit 100% every single time.

I see..

Didn't know that..

Thanks

Thought there was something wrong with the monitor.. :)

Anyway..

Why do you want to auto-adjust the image in the first place?

If the image isn't the full size of the screen, then you'll have to adjust the scaling under the ATI Control Center <- this was the problem that a friend of mine had when he used the HDMI port on his Samsung BX2450.

That seems to be a pretty prevalent problem. I had the same issue on my LG 42" where the scaling was automatically set to, if I recall correctly, -10%.

Oh.. Like I said, Was just wondering if it was the screens problem, or if it's the HDMI function..

But yeah.. someone also said that when i googled..

THanks anyway..

But there isn't really anything bad about Auto-setting is there?

Nothing intrinsically bad, no. In fact it often saves you a bit of effort to try and set up an analogue image correctly :) However most people would prefer to tinker with the image afterwards to get it just so.

Many people have been conned into buying extra cables, etc. to 'fix' image scaling. There should be better documentation on this issue!

These are probably the same people that spend R2,500 on a 2m gold-plated HDMI cable... :D

Yeah.. I guess..

Thanks :)

Yeah.. but buying extra cables are needed isn't it?

I mean I didn't get an HDMI cable with my monitor, so I had to buy one?

All calibrations for picture quality should be done on the monitor via HDMI, no synch is need like vga as mentioned.
Use test patterns to get the best possible balance with contrast/gamma/brightness etc

If there is no sound involved, it is best to use the cable you already have...

well you see.. mm.. I have a HDMI cable and a DVI/HMDI cable..

Now I don't know which one to use.. Cause I don't have speakers on my monitor. So it's like a waste..

But using the DVI seems.. mm.. weird lol

I should not make any difference then use the one that makes you feel the best about yourself

Cool.. mm.. I do think some what HDMI is better.. mm.. I don't know.. maybe it's because of the cable lol :)

I like the smaller connector, and the fact that you only need one cable for audio and video (though I am aware that it doesn't apply in this case) :)
