Auto Stop-Start: Enable/Disable?

Stop-start technology: what's the long-term impact on my car’s engine?

The increasingly common technology designed to save fuel might reduce consumption, but what effect does it have on engine life?

Stop-start systems: is there a long-term impact on my car’s engine?

It's designed to save fuel and reduce emissions, but what effect does the technology have on engine life?

2 years later I still hate this system, dont these okes know its like 40c in cpt, I need that AC blasting all the time lol

When the engine switches off AC goes limp mode :P

What car is this? My wife's Q3 and my Touareg before I disabled Stop/Start would never switch the engine off if the AC was on.

On the touareg def switches off engine even if the AC is blasting :(

But I have habit now off switching off the start stop when I start my trip

happens in our tiguan, and my clio. fooking hate it. whats more irritating that its purely to achieve emission standards.

I disabled it in my Golf R and in my Touareg, it is highly annoying and dangerous at times.
happens when i forget to disable. Tiguan its not so bad if you forget as it starts quickly and pull off is predictable. in my RS its potentially dangerous, if you at an intersection, and suddenly accelerate hard. Theres a moment hesitation, a small bit of lag then chaos. Ridiculous tech

When I say disable, I disabled mine permanently, it will not activate again until it is recoded to  Even just trying to park is a PITA, stop to reverse or change direction, engine off, restart, move, stop, engine off, etc, etc.

Ooh yeah I should do that. I mean the guy who did my software could have, will give him a call

I drive a luxury auto, so maybe its just my car, but I thought everybody was able to control the auto-stop-start by simply adjusting their driving style?
Don't people know that you can control the auto-stop-start activation by the pressure you exert on the brake pedal with your foot after coming to a full stop?
Have a light foot, ie keep the car stationary after stopping without heavy pressure on the brake pedal & auto-start doesn't engage, press down firmly it engages after the set delay as programmed.

I hated the idea of auto-stop-start until I realized I'm in full control all the time, i.e. it fully depends on me whether it engages or not, please don't tell me this is just me??

Seriously, no need to disable anything, although like others I sometimes do like when I'm stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic & my foot gets lazy..

Correct, hardly disable the system anymore as have figured this trick out

I took maximum control and disabled it permanently so now I don't even have to think of how light or heavy my foot has to be on the brake pedal.

Not that simple with a dual clutch. ideally you dont want any middle ground with the break pedal. you either stopped or you moving. you shouldnt creep. Sure you can if you want, but its not recommended

Tiguan's as well, but on the other side

Never owned a car that had this but I've driven a 3 series BMW and a B class Mercedes Benz that have this feature enabled by default and it annoys the hell out of me. I get the appeal of having your car not using fuel while you're standing still in traffic or at a robot and I'm sure some clever German engineer thought about the ramifications of putting extra strain on your starter motor each time you stop at a robot but I can't help but think that it's still shortening the life of some parts of the vehicle.
Just my 2c :)

Irritates the living cr*** out of me. I owned enough old cars with even older batteries that I was always happy to get the motor running. The drop in fuel consumption could be 0.1l per 100 km. R200 per year? Not worth it.

Then I rather drive with lights off, or smaller tires.
