Automatic Car for <= R60K

All depends on your taste in women :P And chicken. Besides, I kept the example relevant mkay? "Gee, let's go out to Dolce and Gabbana ... I'm just gonna pull out my Nissan Almera automatic" said nobody EVER.

Something else to consider about cheap automatics: they're generally paired with weak engines and they WHINE. At least in an underpowered manual you can slap it into first and make that GTI beside you cry (for a glorious 0.5 seconds until its driver wakes up).

Jhb traffic + manual = :(
If you can find a decent auto go for it, nothing worse than clutch-declutch for a 2m advance x 200 twice a day. For your sanity get an auto if you will be in prime time Jhb bumper to bumper traffic for your daily torture.

CPT has actually has worse traffic than JHB, think there was article the other day :P

Remember we only have 2 lanes on some parts of the highway lol

Just plan around it. Autos (not DSG) are so boring.

Any of the major cities in Sa have traffic issues at peak times these days, some more extensive than others.

Gonna hi jack this thread.
Moving to JHB soon, with a budget of 80 to 100k.

What good cars are in that range, has to be automatic.

There are lots of cars... Just do a search on Auto Trader and narrow them down to what you want.

Why do you specifically want an auto?

Fine with me for hijacking this thread you are moving up to Gauteng anyway: We can then look for cars = R80K (You R100K + My R60k) / 2 :crylaugh:

Automatic: I can only drive auto, unfortunately...

Some good suggestions - I will start searching the internet, anyone bought cars on auction from Burchmores?

Wouldn't buy from auction unless you know exactly what you are doing and/or have money to burn. They give new meaning to the word sold as is, you can potentially get properly screwed.

Orrrrr ... you plan to live as close to work as you can afford to. I got super lucky with my latest job, and my commute is all of three minutes every morning. I don't think I'd *really* notice an auto vs manual that much, I only change gears like ten times (there are three traffic lights on the way lol).

This. I've done it. Some are good, some are bad. I would not recommend it if you're a private buyer unless you know cars extremely well.

Possibly what I wanted to see some say - I'm definitely no expert when it comes to cars.

Avoid it then. Rather pay an extra R10k (on average).

You get the CPA as well as the opportunity to drive the car before buying.

In my experience, it seems that dealers buy on auction just to restock when they're running low. The real money they make is on those ridiculous trade in offers, hence why the margins are so low (vs the risk) when buying on auction.
