Automatic image retouching on your phone

Preparing to read this article, but pre-processing images takes place in every digital camera. HDR mentioned in the article is a standard feature since iOS7 and I remember some iOS apps can do retouching real time.

EDIT: It looks like there there are some nice ideas, would need to seem examples and read full papers. It doesn't look a complete work though.
