My MTN contract recently expired, and was going on a month to month basis.I wanted to get the new Note 2, and found what I thought was a good deal through Autopage, a Note 2 with a Cell C Straight up 200 and I applied online. I was then contacted by an Autopage rep on Dec 7. I wanted to port my number, so I was told by the Autopage rep to convert from my MTN contract to prepaid, as that would make things easier. I did so, and then submitted all the forms required (RICA, payslip etc).

A few days later I received my SIM card - problem was, it was a normal SIM, not the micro-SIM the Note 2 uses. I was also waiting for the port to go through, but nothing was happening. I then contacted them 2 days ago, and after get the run around from them, being transferred from person to person, I finally found out that the person dealing with my new contract was on holiday. I resubmitted everything to her manager, and I was told everything was now sorted, and that my phone and new micro-SIM should arrive today.

I also asked them to load a 500 Mb data bundle on - they said that the data bundle would be R149. However, the Cell C website says the same data bundle is R75. Why is there a discrepancy?

I'll be honest, this is not how I expect them to treat a potential new client. I have looked here now and I've seen the problems people are having with Autopage. My question is, what are my options? Technically, My contract with them has not yet begun. Can I cancel now, and go with Cell C directly? Will there be any costs involved? Anything else I can try?

Thanks!

In my experience stay very far away from AutoPage, incompetent bunch of misfits.

It is always better to stay away from any re-seller in the cellular/mobile data arena ie. Autopage and Nashua in my view if look at all the problems by customers of these re-sellers.

So can someone tell me what my options are? Can I cancel now, before the contract has actually started? I did see there was a cooling off period in the contract, but I'm not sure if that applies. Any advice?

If you've signed and they have it, it's on.
You mentioned a "cooling off" period. IF this is the case, I'd suggest you get into contact with Autopage ASAP and speak to them about it.
That's about all I can offer, sorry.
Maybe someone else in the know, could offer better advice.
Good luck...I really hope, for your sake, you can get out of it.

If there is a cooling period and you have nothing yet, then rather cancel...

If you have not received the device yet or the correct simcard, then the contract hasn't started yet.
Just refuse to take delivery of any further simcards or devices and tell them to cancel as you're disappointed - first impressions you know.

You will most likely still be charged in the first month so you will really have to chase them up to cancel on the billing side, and probably over and over and over. But eventually you should be ok.
I did this with 8ta.

Ajax's advice is 100% correct. They might not like it and try and bs you, but this is the way to go. Also tell your bank to decline any debit order

I was able to get out of the deal without too much issue. I'll check to see if anything goes through at the bank later, but I think it's all sorted. Got my new Note 2 from Cell C directly, so I'm a happy camper... :)

Good man.
You just saved yourself a world of pain!
Glad you got out hassle free.
Have a good NYE.

I am very happy for you. But keep an eye on your bank statements. I will bet that you will get billed.
