You do know there is no conclusive proof that a rwd front engined car is faster than an equally powered fwd front engined car from a stand still start.

In track conditions yes the momentum of a rwd will push it through the corners and accelerate much faster out, but from a stand still start the weight transfer is not equal to the traction as the rear is now pushing the front downwards, with a heavy front mounted engine it bogs down thus wasting initial weight transfer.
Fwd is the opposite. More grip at the rear but lifting the front up with the engine making it quicker off the line. In corners however the grip at rear is completely wasted in a front wheel drive as the front wheels is now pulling the additional grip at the rear with the front lifting.
Rwd makes a better track car.
Drag cars have no weight in front, so all the weight is where it should be, the back.

Load transfer causes the available traction at all four wheels to vary as the car brakes, accelerates, or turns. This bias to one pair of tires doing more "work" than the other pair results in a net loss of total available traction. The net loss can be attributed to the phenomenon known as tire load sensitivity.
An exception is during positive acceleration when the engine power is driving two or fewer wheels. In this situation where all the tires are not being utilized load transfer can be advantageous. As such, the most powerful cars are almost never front wheel drive, as the acceleration itself causes the front wheels' traction to decrease. This is why sports cars usually have either rear wheel drive or all wheel drive (and in the all wheel drive case, the power tends to be biased toward the rear wheels under normal conditions).

Actually your car must be quite slow too lose on take off with a slk32 or you have crappy tyres.
A polo tdi can take a e36 M3 off the line.

troll. I maintained the 1 car gap up to the quarter mile, 170km/h. If that's slow, well... So be it.

Also, the SLK will MURDER an e36 M3... 260kw vs 210kw, and 5 seconds to 100 vs 5.4... 13.0 sec quarter mile vs 14.4 ...

:D changing stories now, it was 1 car gap off the line now 1 car gap at the 1/4 mile.
Fact is if you had a better soft compound tyre you would have had better traction.

Nope. I said he pulled a car off the line. That's pure traction. I then maintained that gap to the quarter - traction and therefore tyres had no part to play once we were moving.

Yes, softer tyre would mean more traction. But then they last 15000km or less. For instance, P zero neros. Been there, done that. The Achilles aren't that hard, as evidenced by the fact that despite the disadvantage of being front wheel drive, I did not lose out much off the line to tghe SLK.

Yip premium tyre tend to be softer compound tyres with higher thread wear. They also have better grip in the dry and if they v rated better in the wet.
All tyres have a thread wear rating. The lower the thread wear the lower the levels of grip.
Toyo tyres with the same air pressure will put down more tyre on the road than a Yokohama with the sane air pressure. Toyos are soft compound high thread wear, Yokohama are medium all around. It's also proportional to levels of grip when braking.

Was this run at drag wars recently? Most of the guys were running slicks, I wonder why.

Go Youtube a few front engine, RWD hotrods and tell me that the front is pushed down by the RWD.
Why do you think they have wheelie bars?
Why does the front lift up when they pull away?

I think a RACE between a type r and 86 will settle the off the line debate. Same power, different layout.
