av cable for ipod touch.iphone and plug in mic

why is this so difficult to find in cpt.I bought a av cable and its not working.Must the cable have a dock connector or mini jack.The one i bought has a mini jack but on the net i see ones that has a dock connector.WHich shop can i get a good working one.

I think you have to get an Apple cable, 3rd party connectors are not supported.

Yup, must have a dock connector else you don't get video signal - make sure its certified for iPhone/iPod else it is not going to work - I am also looking for one but the apple cable is ridiculously expensive and includes a charger again - (already have two)

Summary

The following docks support TV out when used with an iPod model or iPhone that supports TV out:

• Apple Universal Dock (requires either the Apple Composite AV Cable or the Apple Component AV Cable—will not work with the iPod AV Cable). Search the store for part number MB125G.
• iPod Universal Dock or iPod with color display dock (iPod photo dock)

Important: The iPhone dock does not support TV out.

I have the ipod av cable and can only attest that it's not worth it. I bought a WD Live player that does the job nicely.
