Hi,
So I am using Avast! Home Edition to protect my PC. It does well for when my PC starts downloading a virus, but very bad as a HDD scanner :(

The problem is when it finds something, it brings up an option menu to ask what to do with the file, which then pauses the scan until you have chosen something. Meaning that I have to be at my PC when it is searching.

Avast does take quite a long time to do a full scan on my PC so doing it while I am on it is quite tricky, I would like to leave it on a full scan while I am out of the house so that it can do its thing for a long time :)

Is there a setting to get it to carry on searching even if it finds something?

Thanks in advance :)

I think you have to edit your Tasks within Avast.
Open Avast from the task bar by right-clicking on the icon ans select "Start Avast Antivirus"
At the main window, select Tasks.
Right-click on "Scan Local Discs" and select Properties. You can also copy this Task if you'd prefer to make a new one.
You may be prompted that you're editing a default task - select OK.
Click on the check-box "Advanced Configuration" on the bottom left.
In the left window, click on "Virus".
You can now enter your preferences - click on "Remove Last Word" to get rid of what is listed and start over.

Download Avira Antivir Personal. Better product than avast and lighter on resources.

Click menu - schedule-boot time scan - select 'scan all local disks' - tick advanced options - [first drop down arrow] delete infected file - [2nd drop down arrow] allow delete or move

now you reboot your pc. Avast is the best I've found yet it is incapable of appropriately dealing with autorun.inf and the RECYCLER viruses. :(

That option is grayed out... do u know why?

Which option? the "schedule boot time scan" option? or the "scan local disks" or the "advanced options?"

Make sure you've ticked the advanced options btw.

My schedule boot time scan is grayed out :(
Know how to fix it?

Win 7 64X

Just did a quick search. Avast boot-time scans don't work on 64X OS, so this is what we'll do (a less glamorous way albeit)... though I can't recall it too well because I havent had a virus in ages...

do a scan like normal, and when the pop up turns up asking you what to do with the virus, find the option to "delete all" then you can relax :)
