Hey Guys,

I'm trying to find out for a marketing campaign, what the average line size across all ADSL users is approximately.

I tried to check Telkom with no avail. So I guess I'm looking for somewhat of an educated guess right now ;-)

Thanks

I'm on 4mb/s I download at 420kbs at max speed. Which is a download connection speed of about 3365kb/s

The average line size across all ADSL users is 384kb, with a download speed of 33kb/s

If you look at the home market, the market share of clients using 384kb is greater than any other speed. When you look at the business market, then 4096kb starts to show up.

Got a 4mb line which vaires anywhere between 40kbs and 410kbs

Hey guys,

I was talking about a combination of 4096, 512 and 384 kbits, then divide by the sum of the total = average line size.

I'm guessing around 2mpbs, cause the main uptake is either 384kb or 4096. No one really bothers with 512.

I'm on 512kbps! And I know lots of other people who are.

Asking on a forum is a sure sucky way to do a survey, and what's worse is that this info is needed for marketing?'

Bwahahahaha....

well where else should he get info from? this forum is a good place cos majority of the users on here have some sort of connection at home I have a 4mb but can only run at 1mb cos of noise on line and also download at an average of 100kb

I'm not saying that this forum is a bad place. But asking open-ended questions in some thread is not the way to go.

He should set up a poll in the forums (if he can't do this, ask for help from the mods), or set up a poll on one of the 100's of free poll websites, and post the link here, or email to friends and family, and ask people to fill it in.

Otherwise just go out and buy the market information from World Wide Worx, or or other business/tech research companies, like the rest of RSA.

Dont forget a lot of people pay for the 4mb/s line but it only sync's at 1mb/s or 2mb/s dependent on how far you are from the exchange.

Hi toxicwazte, thanks for the info, I'll enquire about a poll, as I agree, a thread is not a clever way of doing it, but didn't know I could create a poll.

Thanks again for the insight.

I have a 4MB line in my office... but I usually get between 256 and 786K sync. I did once get my 4096, but that lasted 2 weeks from date of install... never been the same since, and telkom refuses to fix it.
