Average Salary - Junior Developer

I'm moving on this year. I'll negotiate a nice 1 day a week with my current company, because I put them in a position where they cannot afford to lose me.

Kind of sleeping dragon effect, I built and integrated so many things that I have been the backbone of the dev side for 3 years. No flashy things just critical things.

Actively looking now

Good Luck.

I think that it is criminal to pay developers less than 20k for 5 years exp. and for the situation that OP is in.

Job agencies will negotiate around 7-10% salary increase from what you currently earn instead of the amount that they advertise the position for.

I know, I fought with a couple of them last year until I decided to apply at companies directly.

Why would anyone want to move for 7-10% anyway?

Its why I hate them. I will never go through an agency.

It's not the agency, it's usually the company that's only willing to offer 10% more than your current salary. The agency usually gets between 10% and 15% of your annual CTC as commission, so it's in their interest to get you the highest salary they can.

A car guard can earn around R7k per month (tax free). If your net is close to that, it's time to reconsider your career.

I think I should start guarding cars in Ur area.

R7k is not a lot of money. R7000pm/30 days per month/8 hour per day = ~R30ph. Assuming the mean tip is around R2, that's about 15 cars an hour.

With a degree, even in a rural-ish area, you should be earning at least double that. In the city, you should earn three to four times that. I would have moved a long time ago if I were OP and good at what I do.

Who works 30 days per month?

7k is far too little. Definitely start looking around.

Gather around, it's story time.

15 years ago I sold myself for R3K (Probably the equivalent of R7k today.) a month just to get my foot in the market. I also had a crummy worthless certificate but it did the job of getting me a job. I stuck around for 3 years to get enough experience to market myself on that then I left for double the salary.

The reality is that your bosses know they are paying you next to nothing and they expect you to leave. There are enough desperate guys trying to get their foot in the door to take your place.

So start looking.

Having a degree is by no means a ticket to a better starting salary. I started on R9500 with a comp sci degree from UCT. And companies have an issue if you move around for more money, as if you are greedy. So the whole story of a year or two is not correct.

I am not a developer but I have 1 years experience in IT and I get R380k CTC. I think the others recommending you leave are correct.

Hi all,

I want to compare my salary, experience and daily duties with other junior developers.

Please post your average monthly salary, years experience and your daily work requirements.

For me its:
R 7500 net, 2 years experience
Working on multiple codeigniter projects, integrating them with various apis, integrating ecommerce sites with accounting systems.

That's even less than desktop support earns at a well established company.
