I downloaded AVG Free 8.01 tonight and it finds about 30 instances of adware in the Internet Explorer registry keys, even on brand new installs of Windows XP and Windows Vista :D

I love AVG

But dude... maybe its just 'reading' into it what it wants...

You give AVG too much credit.

That's not really a good thing, it's just confusing and wasting time.

Not that you should ever open IE. :)

Does it install FF in the background too?

AVG seem to give lots of false positives.

Yes, that's what I was referring too... beanie... when your gf says shes preggy one day, please take her to the doctor and make sure he isn't using AVG! :D You know... to make sure... Tea can do that! :D

Turning the heuristics settings down a notch seems to cure most of the false positives on AVG.

I've recently switched to Avast....so far so good.

Quick question for the guys currently running AVG Free 8: How do you permanently turn off the notification that the main menu displays when you open the control centre? The "Did you know" notification.

No problem. For a free antivirus it has all the bells and whistles and great detection rate.

It might replace AVG Free as my preferred free anti-virus, from what I've read of it :) But for a paid option I'd still go with NOD32

I usually recommend Zone Alarm Security Suite because it uses the Kaspersky engine and has a 15 day trial. If you want to try it for another 15 days, just remove it completely :D

Too bad they took so long to become Vista compatible, it used to me my favourite.
