I was convinced by a friend to move to Axxess from Mweb. I must say that its only the third day but I so regret having moved over. Have downloaded 11 gigs with a 4 meg line from the 1st until 11 pm on the 3rd and speeds are so slow all day and even now. I called axxess and was told that I am throttled due to high usage.

I am on a 4 meg line for goodness sake. 5 gigs is very little to download per day in my opinion and if they think this is excessive usage then they should explicitly state on their webpage that for a 4 meg line you may not download 5 gigs. On speaking to one of their consultants I was told that if I wanted to be on the safe side then to limit myself to 1.5 gigs a day.

They charge more or less the same as Mweb and what you get in return is not value for money.

Avoid them like the plague if you download stuff.

Another unsatisfied customer. :(

There is more than enough people on this forum that say you should stay clear away from Axxess, no idea why you would move away from Mweb to Axxess it's always the other way around.

Maybe things will change now/soon for you, or you should just go back to Mweb if they will take you back.

So at the end of the day you got what you had coming to you for not researching into Axxess :D

Caveat Emptor

I am with Axxess and have been for 4 years now. I do 450Gb minimum per month. If you buy a cheapo account from them you get what you pay for. Their web page expressly states when and how you will be throttled. These forums are littered with these one off posts where people slag accounts and move on. I note that you don't mention which account you purchased so we can point you to the 'not so fine' print on Axxess' website where they warn you of the consequences of exceeding 5/10 GB in 72 hours.

+100 !

ive been with axxess for 3 years on unshaped and never have any troubles. maybe check what the account includes next time you buy ? IE: *click to show more information !!

Been with them for 3 years and no issues from their side either.
Just the Seacom / Telkom issues that everyone else had as well.

Tech support was brilliant when I needed them.

The trick with the Just Uncapped account is to not start downloading 24x7 from the 1st. You'll end up in the throttled top 50% quickly. Also give it a break every few days.

Considering you can share this account, it's a real bargain at R496/2=R248.

I have an Axxess Express account and do about 400GB to 600GB per month... all torrents. I am very happy with them... just get the correct account.

I have a Axxess just uncapped Account. My friend said he gets up to 600 gigs a month and was so convincing that I agreed to give them a try.

After having downloaded 3.1 gigs on the first, my connection started giving problems from day 2. I did look up the fine print and spoke to others online about axxess and everyone I spoke to said that you would have to be in the top 50% of users to be shaped.

Others had downloaded larger files that myself and more gigs than I had so I don't see how I could fall into that category.

Anyway for people who have been with them for years (as my friend has been) they most probably are more lenient on you guys, but for new people they suck.

Biometrics thanks for that tip.

Unfortunately I did not see the fine print stating I must not exceed 5/10 gigs in 72 hours. Also its a bit ambiguous 5/10. In my book they should be more precise. I also did call and ask them for an average usage which is acceptable and they would not give me a figure.

The problem lies here. The only entity deciding who is in the top 50 is the ISP, and we know they are dishonest.

Your friend is probably not on the 'just uncapped account' find out how much he pays per month, my bet is he is on a more expensive account.

mweb are also useless, my newzhost dont even connect at times, and once i switch to my telkom account they download at full speeds

If you want high usage 4 Mb uncapped at a total ADSL cost of less than R1000 p/m you're pretty much stuck with MWeb. They're not perfect, but you can easily do 200GB+ every month.

if you have it downloading 24/7 and are happy with torrents only working in the small hours and Rapidshare also. Youtube stuttering and games with massive ping spikes making playing difficult. Yep, then Mweb is your choice.

My news servers connect 24/7, but the speeds really suck during the day (20-60kB/s) and evenings (40-80kB/s). Late nights and early mornings rock though. If you're willing to do most of your downloading overnight, then MWeb is cool. OpenWeb Gold (and Axxess Express+) is better overall, but also more expensive.

I do sympathise with gamers on MWeb. Fortunately for me, I mostly download, surf and watch some streaming video and all that works fine for me. I only download regularly after 19h00 in the evenings and I seldom leave downloads running while at work and yet I manage to exceed 150GB every month. I mostly use one-click file hosts (rapdishare, filesonic etc.) and international news servers.

Read before you sign...simple really.

Let's highlight the relevant terms and analyse it:

justUncapped / Uncapped
This account is governed by a priority system (like a hotel grading star rating). Internet Solutions will calculate your usage (not inspect your traffic!) on an hourly basis against the average usage across all Uncapped users. If you fall within the top 20% of users (384k, 512k & 1024k accounts) or top 50% (4096k account), your traffic priority will be lessened by lowering your star rating on the network, meaning that a user with a higher star rating will have a better experience than you. If there's no congestion (mostly after hours), even a 1-star account can have a good experience. This is because the network is designed to make all available bandwidth accessible to its users.

Now this is so arbitrary as to be pretty useless.

  1. There is no way a user can tell if he is in or approaching the top percent.
  2. There is also no way to tell if the ISP is indeed adjusting this correctly or as advertised.
  3. There is no way to tell how much data a customer can expect to download.

Are you sure they would discriminate against new users? I would think it is the package type. The express package I have only really works at about 15KBytes downloading during the day, and full speed after 7pm and over the weekends. So that could also factor into it.

Both my friend and I have the same package type. We both pay R496 a month. Maybe they do not discriminate between new users and long time customers, but I could find no other explanation for he being able to download even more than I had without being shaped and I started having problems after the first day.

As someone said earlier, its my own fault for not having done more research, but I tend to believe friends when they tell me that they have such good experience with an ISP and that I should change.

Have already cancelled my axxess account and will be moving back to Mweb next month.

The just uncapped account is a resold IS account. Axxess have no control over the throttling. They only have real control over their capped accounts.

If you want proper uncapped that doesn't an arm and a leg then Openweb GOLD is the only real option.
