So the access 626 account has been available for a little while now. I'm still not sure if I should get it.
Please could those who are using it tell of their experiences, how is online gaming (local Xbox live and PC)?
Is it true that you get NO browsing from 6 in the am to 6 in the pm?

I'm this |--| close to getting mine going, but need to be pushed first.

EDIT: Also, does it come with a router? If not, what is the best price/value ratio router I should get?

I've been using the 626 account.
At first I thought I could just buy 1GB at a time but your initial purchase is 3GB and therafter you can top up how you want to.

As far as the account goes, haven't had any problems. I don't game that much online but from what I've played on my PS3 I found it better than my shaped 2GB Telkom account.
Account is locked from 6am to 6pm weekdays yes but works immediately after 6 and it runs whole weeked from 6pm friday to 6am monday.

It doesn't come with any router so you gonna have to get one of your own. Not sure about makes but I'd go with Linksys personally I'm sure someone can help you with price.

All in all I'm quite happy with the 626 account its ideal for me cause I only use the internet at home at night anyway and it makes gaming so much better.

Thanks for the info Solidus. Does anyone have an idea of average ping when playing on local and international servers?

So I'll need a router hey? I am clueless about what to look for. All I know is that I'll want one that I can run 626 account, and switch to a local only openweb account when I want to. Again, all recommendations are VERY welcome.

just have another form of backup for those days you are at home and need your access while you are outside their 626 times.

I dig this account, the fact that a 3gb account gets you unshaped b/w for about 53 bucks a gig, u can buy 1gb at a time, but 3gb gets u more for ur bucks...
After hours only, latencies are based on general Saix latencies... all in all a good account, im at work during the day so its perfect for me..

Ping on Do1 is 385 on savage 2 > Works great

On the 626 axxess The ping drops to 240 > Loads faster no lags and no complains from savage users.

Games like half life or counter strike 1.6 works great with 626. Not playable on telkom.

So yah...

It also uses less bandwidth on gaming.

on Telkom my usage on SAVAGE 2 avg is 75mb
on 626 my usage on savage 2 avg is 45mb.
SO yah it really is better. Also the latency is better

Yeah, I work from 7:30 in the am to around 6:30 everyday, so it seems perfect for me. Does mean that I can't leave downloads going during the day though, but that's ok.
I have a 384 line at the moment , do I need to involve Telkom in any way?

EDIT: @Ismail - Thanks for the great detail. How do you figure that it uses less bandwidth though?

As soon as I play , My bandwidth monitor is on(I activate it).
So I pause it after I finish and I get to know what my usage.

Like yesterday my Usage for the whole day on telkom playing SAVAGE 2 was 650mb(8 hour and 22mins)

lol , this why I was not in myBB... Am a game addict:D

Firstly your DO1 account is shaped, the 626 account isnt, hence the difference in latency.
Axxess unshaped accounts are saix based, so it uses Telkoms network, Axxess shaped goes over IS.
Dont know why your games like CS1.6 and HL work better on the 626 unless you playing internationally not locally.
Also I highly doubt that there is a difference in bandwidth usage between the two accounts, it would be dependent on the server used and the people playing, which could change daily. So saying u use less on the 626 isnt correct and will vary daily.

Average pings all depend on the oversees server and its connection so very hard to say, also depending on current routing...

Yes you will need a router, preferably one that can be set to bridge mode. This will allow you then to install RASPPPoE and routesentry. You can create two broadband dialup connections, one for Local only and one for International, this will then send the necessary data to the relevant connection, so you dont have to use your precious international for local stuff.

Axxess 626 account is a IS semi shaped account, But I get on average 20ms less with it than all my other accounts to the local css/tf2 servers. Its worth it

u sure about that?
I cant seem to find nething which specifically says the 626 is IS based.
Its another form of prepaid account, and there is no shaped portion to it, only unshaped, and going by their website, unshaped is saix based no IS.
Only the Semishaped account is IS.
Maybe somebody can confirm this.... I havent checked routing or IP's on my side when logged onto that account.

Sounds good to me. Any recommendations? Don't wanna break the bank, but don't want to buy rubbish either.

R800? That's pretty cheap. Will I be able to do the route-sentry thing on it?

Sweet. Now I just need to decide if I should go wireless, running my 360 to my PC via ethernet and my PC wirelessly to the router (as I currently have it), or get a wired router and go through the shlep of running cabling across the room.

I am 100% sure, cause I would be able to connect to the IS news server if it wasnt on the IS backbone.
