I'm what this forum would classify as a "heavy user". It's clear now that Afrihost is limiting downloads as per Gian's post to around 60Gb before some serious throttling comes in. Is there a definitive answer as to who the best ISP for a heavy user would be? What is your experience with Afrihost, Axxess and Mweb? In short, who can I download the most amount of data with for the lowest price?

Seems to me that nothing has changed with these stupid "uncapped" accounts. Sure, it costs you less, but you're completely neutered in terms of what you can do with them, and it doesn't seem to matter who you choose to go through.

My advice is to get a 4MB line at the cheapest cost (which I think is R350-odd from Cybersmart, someone please correct me if I am wrong), and get an Express (R899) or Express+ (R999) account from Axxess. At least there you know you can use your FULL line speed after hours, and you're only throttled during the day once you've passed a threshold of 20GB within a 5 day period. Also, they don't care if you pull down 800GB a month - in fact, they're so proud of their heavy users they list the top downloaders on the Express page.

I am fed up with these piss-poor 'uncapped' offers. They not what we (and by that I mean heavy downloaders) hoped they'd be, and we are better off sticking with how we've been doing things all along.

Revolution shmevolution.

I would stick with Axxess or Imagine (R999.00 & R979). Both are resellers of the IS after hours fibre uncapped. Mweb is a bit of an unknown at this point. I am with Axxess on the 384 Express + fibre account. They have never complained about my usage at any point. My average for the last 6 months was 500GB. Make your choice between those two ;)

did you DL that amount by torrents or news servers ?

yeah i jumped ship accross to afrihost... people said that I should wait and see haha! I should have waited :)

so Im back to axxess express, fck these piss poor "uncapped" account.

what a total crock of ***** :p

I'm starting to think webafrica was right with their infamous "unsustainable" comment. Seems most of these low end "uncapped" accounts are not able to sustain customer loyalty ;-)

Ja, it sounded too good to be true. Maybe in a years time - who knows. But I am sticking with my Axxess Express + account for now......

Coming from the Axxess Express+ account I would generally say I've been satisfied with the Mweb product. Still room for improvement but I will be sticking with it

Keep us posted on the Mweb package milomak - It will be interesting to see if they are going to shape their accounts as much as the the other ISP's. I somehow think that will be the case - that's if you are a HEAVY user...... :)

What about the other IS cheap 4Mbps uncapped accounts? Openweb/Axxess. What would their AUP be in terms of throttling? Just wondering.

i have used 68gb so far on mweb and they havent throttled me yet, so i would go with them, except for the first few days browsing was nightmare. After an hour on the phone to someone @ mweb all seems sorted :)

I'm using axxess 4069 uncapped. Its horrible. Their policy seems to be shaping a 4096 line to dialup speed.

Axxess AUP states nothing about throttling or limatations, only that it is shaped.

I would still be careful of any of these "new" uncapped packages. You get what you pay for (in most cases I would think). I see already there are a lot of unhappy people who "jumped ship" and not happy campers at the moment.

If you have money to throw away - give the new packages a try. That way you will get first hand experience.....

I was on Axxess Express +, but was always frustrated with the daytime throttle. I went with Afrihost uncapped, but then cancelled when Gian came out with the 30/60/90 abomination. Totally silly and unworkable system, and light years away from uncapped. Switched to Mweb, working well so far, will see how it goes through the month....

As far as uncap is concern, stay away from Afrihost, for now at least, no dealings with Axxcess so cannot comment, but very happy with the mweb uncap
