Axxess/SAIX News Server

Perhaps if there is more servers to choose from, the IS news server wont be as used as it was, and they will balance out abit (hopefully)

Yeah, I like your hope man :) Maybe SAIX also gives more bandwidth to thier news server because they run on SAT3 which would be cheaper than IS's satelite. Time will tell

It allows 5 connections. Although on 384 even on 3 you'll get full line speed... I somehow suspect that it will not be long until SAIX news ends up where IS is now (overused due to publicity that is) :(

doubt it.. its too costly

Now saix just have to increase the caps as well and i'll be happy

News Servers - Local only customers will not have access to SAIX's news servers.

SAOL do not allow users of SAIX local only accounts access to the news server ?! And at R25 a GB, I wonder how many people use SAOL for local SAIX...

Get Axxess 1 GB local for R19 per month or get 1 GB local with roll-over from WebAfrica for R19 (all SAIX) :)

Perhaps SAOL just need to update thier site, I remember a while back even Axxess said that local only accounts wouldn't be able to access the news server. Needless to say it was accessible...

Thanks for the homework, sounds brilliant and affordable ;)

That was my research in looking for cheaper SAIX local packages :) R19 per GB was about the best.

There was this one site that claimed that local does not count towards the cap on thier ADSL packages, and ther cheapest package was R120 for 1 GB international. Then I read at the bottom of the page, and it said "(C) 2001-2004" so I wonder if they have updated thier site since Telkom capped local a few years back :p

Just a quick question: Can u download intl content at full line speed, or do u also have to wait for it to be cached like the IS news server ?

Full speed on any file as far as i know..

Its quite worth it... R19 per gig is a lot cheaper then like R70gig of intl data..

Its also fast, no waiting for caching..

That really sounds awesome...:D

/me thinks about getting some pre-paid vouchers from Engen... :)

*EDIT: On second thought I would be much cheaper to subscribe for a 1GB/2GB local only account from Axxess....

How is IS better? SAIX you dont have to wait for things to be cached.. You can download at full speed.. meaning i get 415kbs..

So i dont get how you can say IS is better, besides the fact it costs less to download from it.. But it doesnt make it better.

Well, ja the news server is worse, but the whole cost of downloading is better. You can still get more downloaded for less, but you can't get everything you want, and 10kb/s is hardly worth it.

I'm going SAIX anyway, better for gaming as well.

yup.. besides giving the choice
10GB instant or 30GB over a month u know which way i'd go.

It seems like the premium for speed is going to keep at least some if not all leechers off SAIX news server :p Nice, so now SA has one premium server for those looking for the odd file at good speed and one server where all the leechers can line up tons of files (simply because it is cheaper). Sounds good to me :)

I still dont mind buying international news accounts as facilities make it worth while. ie : easynews zip manager.

Is it down for anyone? I don't get any data, it just reconnects :p

Edit: worked fine last night.

Edit2: just switched off my router for a couple of minutes and back on, now it's working again :p
