Axxess/SAIX News Server

After some thought, this is actually great news. Anything to help lighten the load on the IS server is good news

Glad you think so...:D

Things are about to change for the better on Saix side, and it will happens quickly. My (usually untrusty) sources confirmed this. You don't go and mirror Giganews just for the hell of it.

is the server down?

I cant access news.saix.net and Im using a telkom 3GB account?

e.

I find some problems on my teslcum account too. What I do is, I use grabit and load the nzb, after it tries to connect for 1 minute, I pause it for about 20 seconds and unpause it again, then it starts downloading.

I think this is a problem with Teslcum internet, maybe they have linking issues or something? ;)

Meaning? Uncapped local??? (WE DREAM!) Please tell ;)

Well my friend(who was drunk at the time)talked in that direction...either uncapped local or bigger caps.He mentioned something about the saix news server------> binaries about a 5 weeks ago and when i checked it out it worked. Also mention something about higher caps...about how telscum was preparing a platform for iptv...iptv runs on adsl2 with local bandwidth uncapped...which means adsl can use those bandwidth too...that's why the saix server support binaries now...to get those users on his side...that's the people who most likely will go for iptv...blah blah blah.

Does that make sense?

If not, don't shoot me,i'm just the messenger of some very unreliable info.

*sighs* and of course it all gets publicly discussed again. I give it one month till its fsckd

Oh right, we should have it like ninjacentral. SAIX can support the newsserver, there won't be a problem unless they make one. Their local caps are expensive enough to justify it.

SAIX is not "mirroring" Giganews. They are merely getting their content from GN. It makes no business sense to download the 12TB a day for the 400 users using it. I can assure you that SAIX NNTP is not downloading 12TB a day from Giganews

on demand.. not like you won't get at least 3Mbps from the server anyway so who cares if it is mirrored or not. Perhaps when we get 8Mbps ADSL it will be a factor

Sorry to be such a noob.. but what exactly can i get from the IS and Saix news servers?? all i see are 300KB messages ??

Ag, nothing really. You can discuss math and science and all such things with people in various countries. Well that's what it was intended for (more or less) before the binary sharers got hold of it :D What can you get ? Well what are you looking for ? Go to www.newzleech.com, do a search for what you are looking for and either it is there or not :) If it is there, and you do not know where to go from there, then go to www.newshost.za.net and ask in those forums, not here you'll get your head bitten off by noob-a-phobics ;)

OK, I just tried to grab an e-Book that was not more than 20MB and I used to (IE a few weeks/months back) get full line speed (40 KBps) but now I get really bad speeds

Is it just me, or is everyone finding a deterioaration in the server? That's for people who used it before this thread ;)

ADSL in general seemed bad today, checking some other posts in the ADSL section. SAIX might have had problems... is it better?

It's not the server, ADSL is crap (for the past 2 days now) like Ekhaat says. 20-30kB/s is par for the course on a 384k line until whatever problem SAIX has is sorted out.

Only 1 connection allowed

Over the past 2 days I've seen a big decrease of speeds. Currently I can only connect with 1 connection to the SAIX news server.

Am I the only one ?

I've tried using my AXXESS 10 Local and Telkom 3 Gig on a 4 mbps line and only get speeds of 90/100 kbps?

OK, tried two more (very small) manuals so only two threads going but got full speed again, so I'm happy :D
