I have canned Neotel, now I am thinking of alternatives.

The best seems to be Axxess uncapped express+.
I just want to clarify, if I have a 4mb line and I take the 384k uncapped deal from them, after hours and weekends I will be downloading at 4mb? And then I will only have 192k usage during office hours because I will always be over threshold.

Is this correct?

Mostly yes. Your one assumption was a bit off though :D

To put it in to context, I usually download at around 25kbps during the day ... BTW i was already capped by the 1st so when monday rolled around so did my "usage cap"
What I did was get a 20GB setup from Afrihost so my family can play during the day ...
And Yup my 7 & 10 year old's (and wife) can clap that in a month, every month !

im using the Express. i was on express+ but didnt see a speed diff.

Remember, the rolling cap is rolling - not month based. so between 31-01 of a month it means nothing, its the last 10 days in a row that matter.

I've often gone over the threshold. browsing in the day is fine, still faster than neotel and iburst. downloading in the day when capped is a bit of a schlepp though.

Once you hit night time it flies and without limits :)

Btw, "office hours" seems to vary sometimes i only get full line speed at 20h00, other days at 19h00 - once i even got it from 16h30.

Does your after hours usage with uncapped express count towards your theshold?

Thanks, how is surfing during the day for those of you who are on the 386 express package and is this service all that it's hyped up to be?

Surfing is fine if you are not rate limited, if you are rate limited you will get maximum of 25kB/s throughput. Apart from Axxess useless technical support the product is fine, but just hope you never deal with the support thats an entirely different ball game.

Please explain to me what rate limited is and how you get to be rate limited. I went onto their site and can't find the terms and conditions.

Basically it means you can only use 5GB per 10 day threshold, if you use 5GB in the first day, you will be rate limited. It is on axxess site with there little animation thing.

It seems a bit of a con though, if you consider that the 5gigs will probably be downloaded after hours. So am i correct in saying that this package is basically used for after hours and weekend usage and not daytime usage. I don't have sound to check out that vid.

The purpose of the threshold is to curve abuse, which they didn't really succeed at doing. But yes if you go ballistic with downloading you will be throttled during the day, and it wont be pleasant. But if you're not at home during the day its not an issue.
