Axxess unshapped uncapped ... worthless

Uhm, that's a lot, and you said in your first post you used only 6GB :erm:

You have reached the limit of this account, the shaping is there for a reason
The shaping is quite reasonable if you ask me

My bad 16 gig already :o nope I dont think so and its a bit harsh i reckon. 16 GB is not alot.
If you're on youtube alot, download a couple of lunix patches, play second life and just generally dick around on the internet its not alot, throw in a couple of MS security patches and you'll be there in no time. :D:D:D

It is for this account, unfortunately.

I have used 11GB thus far and I am completely unshaped atm which shows you where the point lies where they start shaping

Seems like, however browsing is still bearable and you tube generally suck on a 384 ....
They said I have 1 star when I phoned tech support. Not sure how this system works, do you start at 5 stars and work your way down?

1 star = shaped to hell
2 stars = almost shaped to hell
3 stars = even more shaped
4 stars = more shaped
5 stars = unshapped?

Wish IS could give us some figures or at least a glimpse of the star system.

I think you're on the right path.

This could explain why my connection was either 1/5, 2/3 or full speed when I was shaped at the beginning of the month.

It seems that I'm almost back to full speed so someone must have downloaded more than I have.
Been taking things easy and I reckon thats the way it should be. U dont have any idea what other 384 account I can take advantage off? Looking for something that wont kill me financially ....

Had a look @ OpenWeb's packages so dunno 4 sure which route to go. Seems we need an ISP that's not hooked up to IS and have their own IPC.

Mweb perhaps?

The whole fun of this account is that it's unshaped (if you behave yourself).

Going with Mweb or Openweb's shaped accounts means you will have to put up with shaping of many protocols.
Although you can surely pull more GB's across, your connection is artificially degraded.

For example, when you need to buffer a Youtube movie quickly but because it's still office hours, the connection is shaped and almost half of what it should be and you end up being frustrated by it.

But if you want your pc to run 24/7, downloading as much as you can find, I'm sure the shaped accounts will suit you better.

Not much i reckon, managed to do 60 GB with Afrihost last month.

You do relalize that your account status is stating full access. So you are NOT being shaped. Clearly there a deeper underlaying problem.

@Wikus,: 16GB alot ??? lol what planet do you live on.

Year-Month 2010-08
Total MB Used This Month 90741.06 MB
Average MB Used Per Day 5671.32 MB
Account Status Rate Limited

Im rate limited during the day.

You see the 20% or 50% is a relative measure--if more people are downloading heck of a lot and you are below them then you are fine--even if they download the entire internet, you should be fine. But say, people are downloading just average (say 20GB a month, 5GB a week) and you are doing more than then, even if the amount is small, you will be shaped.

My question is: is there a "floor" and "ceiling" amount of data before the 20% or 50% starts kicking in or is it a moving target?

The rumour that seems to be circling around is that if you hit 200GB it starts looking at your account, whether this is true is yet to be told, axxess have not been forth comming with regards to my emails.

Where do you guys get the usage page where it shows that you are rate limited or not?

Yup it states full access but not on this AXXESS 384 package. If I switch to my Afrihost or Mweb packages all is fine (speed wise) doubt that my line is sick

Here is the thing - on Mweb 4 meg uncapped I have downloaded over a terabyte of data within a months time. I never felt like I was being shaped or worse throttled. No e-mails, no worries, just fun fun fun :)

It differs from provider to provider and if they are using IS bandwith or their own ...

I'm a bit confused here.

You joined AXXESS in August. So were
you on MWEB before or are you still on
MWEB?

You also say you never felt like you were
shaped?? On MWEB.... seriaaaas???????

Okay here is the thing, I have been on 4 different uncapped offerings this year. First DC, then Mweb, Afrihost and now AXXESS, I like to test everything out myself and stay with the best.

Shaping on Mweb? Have never felt it - could feel the user load but not shaping regarding a protocol or port for that matter.

how can you move a terabyte worth of data within a month?

Well it was when Mweb uncapped first started, downloading 24/7. One thing to remember is that the rest of the user base had not climbed on board and DPI was not up to scratch.
