Axxess - Update

I must admit that the 626 package has really impressed me. I believe that use IS for them? My 4mb/s line really flies with it and I have had very good ping times to the Unreal Tournament servers that I play on. That said. It disconnects me every 5 minutes tonight so maybe it is not a good time to say how great it is

If u would have just said in the first place, 'I prefer SAIX because of speed, gaming etc' then I would have understood you.
There is no issue here with my English. The only issue is with ur inability to answer a question the 1st time round.
And yes, I also use the internet to earn money, but u seem to know me better than I know myself...

IS is considerably slower than SAIX, not only for gaming but for browsing as well, i have tested IS accounts compared to my SAIX, and there is a difference.

Thank god im not an axxess customer.

IS = satellite

satellite = higher lag (slower speeds) than fibre

Hi Librarian. IS via Axxess is fibre on sat3. Those stupid 1/2/3gb international and large free local crap is via satellite(international). This is what has given IS a bad name on the market place.

well thanks to this fsckup our boss decided to hell with next months uncapped axxess, and got us all iBurst

so thanx for that one, guys, and 2ndly i'm sure our company would of been happy with the massive saving of R11,50 but we lost out on some business thanks to the guys at your end who thought it would be funny to flip the on/off switch every 5 minutes (keeping it on "off" for a lot longer)

poor judgement and decisions on your side, cost you a LOT of customers I reckon.

good luck axxess.

Ok sent the e-mail and opened a ticket requesting that my pre-paid account be switched back to SAIX.

Let us see if they do it!

With immediate effect all @axxess.co.za accounts are now semi-shaped, which means that you will have the improved unshaped access after-hours. Also note that with immediate effect the pricing of semi-shaped accounts will be brought down to R59

Please note that reseller, local and unshaped accounts are not affected and will not be affected. Reseller accounts in the near future will have a voluntary switch-over and any future change of whatever nature will be announced well in the future.

Axxess DSL

To the Axxess rep:
Does this mean the Express+ Uncapped offering is also semi-shaped now?

Thanks

I just switched over to my Axxess prepaid account. I tried some YouTube, and the videos don't play. Switched back to Telkom. They play. Tried some local gaming. 72ms on Axxess. 60ms on Telkom. What gives?

A lot of people are upset, it seems to be from the number of posts.

We still do have issues with our prepaid axxess voucher, so I'll convert that to a SAIX account.

Hope Axxess learnt from this mistake and will provide a better service in future.

Regards

Libs

There we go. My pleasure :D

What is the big issue with IS bandwidth? Bandwidth is bandwidth, as long as it's available when you wanna use it

NO! Bandwidth is not just simply bandwidth. There is this thing called LATENCY which is a bastard and IS suffers from it. It's not good for things like Gaming, VoIP and anything that is time sensitive.

Pffft..please, I use my IS local account for gaming and its latency is on par with my SAIX account. Obviously if you play internationally then it I'd understand you okes moaning about the increased latency internationally, other than that, on local its EXACTLY the same for me.

Hi Librarian. IS via Axxess is fibre on sat3. Those stupid 1/2/3gb international and large free local crap is via satellite(international). This is what has given IS a bad name on the market place.

I have an IS 626 account and a WA SAIX account. The SAIX account is more expensive but the experience online is just so much better. With SAIX, when I enter a website address and hit Enter, it resolves the site immediately and starts loading. I don't have this experience with my IS account. There's always a slight waiting period. It's not the end of the world but it is noticeable. I even notice it with Google searches, IS is just slower.

It's therefore interesting that both run on fibre via SAT3 because the experience is definitely different. Could it be that the IS network is simply busier for whatever reason and therefore not as responsive as SAIX?
Then there's the reported problem with higher latency as well to intl gaming servers with IS. Why would the latency be higher on IS if it's also running through the same fibre SAT3 cable?

IS accounts have their place but it's only from a cost-saving point of view, definitely not because of performance.

No this is BS... I just tried watching some Youtube vids and get slower speeds than allways.. I also tried downloading some stuff and my download speed use to be around 37kbps - 39kpbs and now it's only 33kbps - 35kbps..

I think this is just plain cr@p.... Sending my email first thing in the morning.. I just use it for personal use at home on prepaid.. But still this is BS!!!!!

This is exactly my point, thanks for making it Keeper. People would rather have a wireless (crap!) connection that's expensive than pay the "cheap" amount for uncapped bandwidth from Axxess.

I suspect the reason why there's a slight delay is because of the limited peering between Telkom and IS. The bottleneck is the incoming/outgoing pipe to the Telkom network (who still, after 4 ****ing years, are the only provider of ADSL lines)

What is the big issue with IS bandwidth? Bandwidth is bandwidth, as long as it's available when you wanna use it

I would expect the Telkom-haters would want to switch to something that isn't completely Telkom-based but that is NOT the case AT ALL as evident from almost all posts here.
I would actually praise Axxess for taking a bold step like this

Yes, you would think that... but read on below

Hi ariopp

I see you are still new to the forums. Most posts here are from users that own/work for ISP's slagging other ISP's and tring to get market share.
It's really funny to watch sometimes. Better than DSTV hands down.
See it as an interactive TV show :D

I'd disagree m0zy. If you consider that the flack a technician (or company offering IT services) had to take due to the stupidity of the "ISP OF THE YEAR" and the amount of man-hours spent fixing an issue that shouldn't have happened and the money it cost them to fix it immediately to continue doing business and be productive. Then the change is not worth it. And no. Even though there is representation on these forums from different ISP's, nobody slagged off Axxess until this huge mistake.

I don't have years of business training or an MBA, but I know that you don't do this ****... EVER...

Axxess will lose customers by the hundreds because of this. Not only is it proven that internet access is now slower by default, the downtime experienced by everyone is crazy, especially the disconnections!

Now just go through the last few days threads. Count the number of guys who have switched services and said that they're going to cancel their accounts. Now consider the amount they spend with axxess.

I'm counting a loss of income for Axxess in the region of around R11-R25000

*slow hand clap for the idiot who's decision this was @ Axxess*

BRAVO

The best of it all was that in the beginning of the month, my 30gb local only gives a bit of international access, so I stay on that till international gets capped. I loaded my NZB's as usual, thinking I'm on the SAIX account, and when they started immediately, I assumed that I was on the IS account and let it stay.

It was a nice way to burn up my "SAIX" international bandwidth in a single day thanks to Axxess.

Hopefully Webafrica won't make the same mistake, they are my ISP now...

Well since you are here, I might as well ask you one more thing. Why can;t I use vouchers to topup a 626 account. It's the only thing stopping me from getting one. Seriously, that sucks a lot.

Morning smokey

You are now able to top up your 626 prepaid accounts with vouchers.
1GB Voucher will add 1.28GB to your 626 Prepaid account.

I must say this, even though this was a big mistake. At least Axxess converted my pre-paid account back to SAIX. Impressive was 20mins after I placed the ticket.

I assume it being on SAIX means it is shaped as opposed so semi-shaped on IS? Is this correct axxess rep?

That's correct Linoman.

Thanks for answering my reply. I must admit though I would rather have shaped SAIX than semi-shaped IS.

I still feel all accounts should by default be on SAIX and if user requests then move it to IS. Not the other way round

(No I don't use my Axxess for local I use it for international where SAIX is still faster than IS)

However at least my account was converted back to SAIX. However Axxess my respect and trust with you has dropped quite considerably.
