hey guys!

do anyone of you know how to encode like axxo or blueman?.. axxo has great quality encode's art 700mb and blueman's encode's are small and great quality, around 150mb an episode. Now, i'm not "promoting" any "illegal" uh activities?? i just want to know how they do it. I've tried autoGK and allot of other programs, changing settings in xvid, divx and so, and i cant get close to that quality or size???

so just for uh, reference, how do you make a great xvid or mkv backup??

sorry if its under the wrong section, I just know you get the fastest replies here...:D

I'd guess variable bitrates. So a high bitrate during fast action and a low bitrate during static scenes. Would require you marking up the whole movie I assume.

With total video converter you can get decent quality and still control the size of the file..

I got really good results using AutoGordianKnot.2.45. Weird name but I tried a few programs and it was the best ofr me... once I figured out how to use it!

I get good/fast results with Nero Recode. But it is not freeware.

gordian knot is quite complex from what i remember. I like any program that will let you use DivX + its advanced settings (in which you set quality and compression) + the capability for 2 pass.

Recoding Video.

Hey boet, try using SUPER. Its fast and efficient and has a VERY small footprint. It also supports most major formats. It recodes from ANY format TO any format...:)

AutoGK works perfectly, you must be doing something wrong. Make sure you use DVD Decrypter to get the DVD onto your comp first. If you search google with something like "how to make a 700mb rip" you'll find some nice tutorials.

How to back up Your DVDs and rip your DVD collection to your Hard Drive!

1) Remove Region Protection...
Install this program first... it will remove the copy protection and macrovision while you decrypt... (and will also allow you to watch region protected discs in the future)...

2) To make a backup of a DVD to another DVD...
DVD Decrypter can rip the DVD to your hard drive or make an ISO image...

(Note: DVD Decrypter removes the CSS encryption on the DVD)
If DVDDecrypter has problems with a newer DVD install DVD43 (above).
If you have ripped the DVD files to your hard drive, you can then use DVD shrink to make the image smaller and turn it into an ISO file that I can fit onto one DVD... Note: you have to select ISO image as the target file from the drop down menu.

Once you have the ISO image you can use this program to burn it back to a DVD...

3) To Rip a DVD to an AVI or DivX (XviD) file...
The free version of this program Fair Use Wizard can rip any DVD to a 700 Mb AVI (XVid) File... with just one click...
http://www.fairusewizard.com/
but.... I find I get a much better quality rip, when I follow these steps...
i) Use DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD to your Hard Drive.
ii) Use DVD Shrink to make an ISO image of the DVD, but turn the compression off completely, in other words, the ISO image will be an exact image of the DVD. Also enable the two extra read options in DVD Shrink to get a better quality image, it is slower, but it pays off. Put that image on a different drive to the one you are going to rip to.
iii) Now use Fair Use Wizard to rip from that unencrypted image in your hard disk. You will get a very high quality rip with no artifacts and no "streaking".
Compare that to a rip straight from the DVD and you will see what I mean. Of course the quality of your DVD drive and speed of your processor is also a factor. 3.0 Ghz strongly recommended!

AutoGK is pretty damn good really, you must be doing something wrong ;)

Gordian Knot itself is a little more complex, but if you have very specific use in mind, it can give you the options you need.

One of the more useful bits, was encoding the movie in a certain quality, and the credits in a lower quality. You could of course just chop off the credits as well... but I like having it all.

I tried Fairuse but the quality, to me at least, is not DVD quality like aXXo's rips. Am i doing something wrong?, i followed your every step.

BTW the mediafire link for the manual seems to be broken.

you call axxo rips good quality? you should totally check "264 mkv" stuff. google it.

Ja, it should come to DVD quality. You might have to play around with the settings. Always worked nicely for me.

I'll check what happened with the link.

mkv is a different format/container to DivX/XviD which is what aXXo uses. Yes it is better quality but the file sizes are much larger and won't play on a lot of media players or DivX capable DVD players.
