Hi guys,

I remember when visiting Cellucity not too long ago, they had a poster for 'backing up your contacts etc OTA (Over the air)'

There was a web address but I didn't think much of taking it down.

Anyone know about this?
It was free as far as I know.

Well, the thing is, my boss has a HTC Tytn, he is getting the Nokia E71 (like I did) and he doesn't want to loose his contacts, transferring the data is a mission on HTC but if this OTA service does exist, we can just use it.

Makes my life easier since I'm probably going to the 'job' of doing it.

can you not copy your contacts to a sim card then recopy to the other phone and then use said sim card as a backup?

He has his own business, 6 years down the line.

Can you imagine how many contacts he has?!? ;)

His sim is full and using phone memory too.

just a thought because i saw someone do that exact thing on another phone forum today.

I'm sure HTC have some sort of application like Nokia have PC Suite - but ag, HTC is just problems ontop of problems.

if you have a nokia phone, they offer this as a free service through the ovi site. register, get sent settings, sync with their server. view calendar and contacts online if you wish. if your computer and phone get stolen, it's there for restore.

google sync works really well, took my 1500+ contacts from my blackberry to my iphone, no problems, with contact pics embedded too.

I have a Touch Pro and I can confirm that it is H E L L to transfer contacts.... Winmo associated to 1 Outlook "presence"... everything goes to that one outlook account.... If you should plug the phone is on another PC.... the phone wipes ALLES! - I've had it happen to me a few times. If you only have one outlook accounts, then it's nice... Outlook and WinMo is sync/harmony....

I can't wait to get back on the Nokia boat.... so tired of HTC and their crappy phones.... the only thing that's nice about them, is that their phones are very good for enterprise usage.

I have my phone sync to Outlook, and then get the Google Sync app, which will then sync Outlook to gmail contacts (and calendar).... the other option is to export all the contacts to a csv file, then import it back to the Nokia PC suite....but if a contact has multiple lines, i.e more than 3 emails addy's, multiple numbers, etc.... the csv import doesnt do them all, so you could lose some numbers.... best bet is Google Sync to preserve them all.... when you've finished with the backup, check the contacts to make sure it's all there.... I don't trust HTC or Outlook.

Depending on your phone you can also use Nimbuzz, similar to fring. I presume it backs it up on to their servers.

SyncML (Synchronization Markup Language) is the former name (currently referred to as: Open Mobile Alliance Data Synchronization and Device Management) for a platform-independent information synchronization standard. Existing synchronization solutions have mostly been somewhat vendor-, application- or operating system specific. The purpose of SyncML is to change this by offering an open standard as a replacement. Several major companies such as Samsung, Motorola, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, LG, IBM and Siemens AG already support SyncML in their products.

HTC (WM versions) syncs beautifully with Outlook. Literally just plug your phone in and it goes :)

Otherwise, use Microsoft MyPhone - works really easy as well.
