Very bad example of sportsmanship , after an amazing batting performance by some of the Protea batsman , the captaincy / management decide to "give up" the run chase when they have all the opputunity and time to win.

Leaves a very bad taste in one's mouth. Not the example I would want to be taught to the youngsters who are interested in being the next great SA cricketer.

Management and the SA Cricket Board need to rethink their priorities. This behaviour is not what i would expect from the No.1 team in world rankings.

Sad day for SA Sport + SA Cricket.

We're all fuming in the cricket thread. It was absolutely fscking pathetic. Proudly brought to you by Graeme Smith.

Wasn't Smith. Was Vern and Dale's decision on the pitch. The wrong one, but so be it...

imagine we lost due to crazy batting (chances taken)...what would the comments been then I wonder?

Surely management would have made that decision when Steyn came on?

Edit:
Sorry, saw your next post

I think the guys from both sides played well. Well done to both teams !

agree 100%.
Excellent test match. Deserved a "proper" result. After fighting for five days , to tapper out to a draw is a huge let down.

Just the last few hours of day 5 ruined it. Bad decision making.

Agreed - good match, but we should have tried to win, even if we lost in the process.

And Duminy fails again when it matters.

In SA's defence, Morkel's injured and Tahir's ****. In these extremely difficult conditions, it was super easy for SA to lose wickets in a clump after Faf's exit. So I guess there was nothing wrong with them going for the safest option at that particular time. A loss would be huge gut-wrenching.

They knew this yesterday , you telling me that the batsman could not score an extra 8 runs over an innings of +-130 overs to accomodate any possible batting short commings they might have ???

And this is what people don't get. A draw is a proper result. Test cricket is played within five days and 450 overs. Playing for a draw has huge merits.

I think this was a fantastic performance from our boys. They did a brilliant job to draw the game, after being behind for almost 3 quarters of the match. It was is an added bonus that they managed to get close enough to almost win it, but I think we should all stand by Vernon's decision not to take on the bowlers with Doni's mostly defensive field set, and only an injured Morkel and a classic number 11 in Tahir to come.

It would have been nice to win. But under the circumstances a great achievement to draw.
