Hectic, sounds like you survived which is the important thing, although your car must be totalled by the sounds of it.
 
Car not totaled but the suspension is damaged...

The truck in the background missed my car by millimeters about 10 minutes later and also spun out

As a point of reference to anyone who knows the area... It's under the Everton bridge and my car is facing the wrong way

YZY595GP driven by an absolute idiot woman who unnecessarily overtook several cars at high speed on a short road that is full of potholes, I suspect she must have clocked about 100km/h in a 60 zone and then she ended up waiting a good minute or more to turn at the T-junction (like everyone else always does at this particular intersection).

Truck drivers are a bunch of special people (I have a better word to describe them). On my way home tonight, I keep up with the traffic, doing 110 - 120KM/h, minding my own business, when all of a sudden this idiot truck driver decides to swing out at 40KM/h, and overtake the truck in front of it. Sadly I had no where to go. Had a rush of cars flowing past me on the right hand side. Guess I could be lucky the car behind me wasn't hogging my ass. Had to go from 110 to 40 in less than 70M.

Dropping 70KM/h isn't all that difficult, but when you have to do it on a high way at night, you always have an increased chance of hitting something. All I can say is, I'm happy I have breaks. Think they need to start putting dash cams in these truck, and check up on them when ever the need arises.

There should be legislation or regulations that forces owners of trucks and buses to fit one of these newfangled tracker units with integrated accelerometers and whatnot, the insurance companies could then start to hike the premiums for trucks and buses that are being driven badly which would in turn force the owners to crack down on their drivers. Obviously any such legislation or regulations would have to be very carefully crafted to ensure that there are no unwanted consequences, not that there is any hope of legal loopholes being plugged off-the-bat in this country.

What sort of following distance were you keeping?

EDIT: Speaking of bad driving... This didnt irritate me, it was just hilarious.

I am at a robot turning right, and there are two right turning lanes. When I pull up to the robot, there is a woman in an X5 in the right hand lane. With her reverse lights on. So I pull into the left hand lane. The light turns green, I go forwards, she goes backwards! Was hilarious! Somehow she didnt notice. No there was no one behind her, and she didnt go really far back. Pity she didnt floor it!

I am horrified to see how badly ( and yes. I am generalizing) the new Polo drivers are driving.

It may be a Durban thing and the type of chop who buys them here, but they are starting to make Fortuner and BMW drivers look like angels.

In the last week I have been tailgated by two white ones, dangerously cut off by a red and a blue one, then as I was approaching N2/N3 split, I had a following distance of about 2 seconds to the Fiesta in front of me and I had a total chop in a new white Polo hooting and waving at me, trying to make me close the gap. When we came to the split, he flicked west to PMB and was immediately stopped in a jam going in that direction.

Just totally beyond my comprehension. :mad:

I actually think it's a wider problem than just the Polo's. Up here there are so many GTI's on the road and around 50% of them drive like total pillocks. Weaving inbetween traffic, no indicators, no checks, cutting guys off - they just gooi it.

Complete lack of enforcement. When last did you see a traffic officer pulling somebody over for a moving violation?

Only time we see them now is when they are on a chair, under a tree, behind a camera, or at KFC.....

I don't see them doing any of those things on my daily commute route and I go through some hot spots where they used to be. These days I see them trying to be the traffic lights. Man do they **** up bad. It's a sad sight when broken lights work better than our dear JMPD.
