Bad Driving thread

Maybe VW has an advance Polo idiot driving course.
Looks like it. Had the one young girl in a red new Polo TDI run a red light at about 20km/h over the speed limit last year. When I confronted her at the next red light, she just stared at me. This afternoon I saw a gray new Polo with the entire left front light cluster missing (there was a hole where it was supposed to be).

This morning, a new Yaris was tailgating me... scary thing is that the car already had a smashed front right headlight and skew rear bumper and number plate.

Strange that you guys are talking about aggro women drivers on the increase. I was thinking exactly the same just yesterday.

women have been driving badly for ages already. they just have bigger and faster cars now.

More scary for me is how many women I've seen recently who will decide to reverse for whatever reason WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING behind them.

Case in point almost got reversed off my bike on Thursday when a women first rolled back and after my revving a little still continued to put the car in reverse and then must touched my front wheel as it hit the rev-limiter and then she looked at me as if "what are you going on about"

Also a Polo oddly enough.

Yesterday afternoon I got my new demo car - a new XV Plasma green, so driving through this morning's traffic I was particularly on edge - anyway as I was passing Clairwood on the M4 a bloody p rick in a Hyundai i20 cut across 2 lanes from my left and cut in front of me,so that I had to brake hard. Obviously I got a fright, so I flashed my lights at him...bad mistake!

We were doing about 80 when he then slammed on brakes and came to a complete halt, forcing me to almost stand the car on its nose to avoid hitting him - he then pulled off and again as we reached 80 he slammed on brakes again! He did it 3 times, and I had to brake so hard that my ABS kicked in - there was a poor woman in a BMW behind me, and how she stopped I just don't know.

I am still shaking and it's half an hour later.

What is it with these crazy ass holes on our bloody roads!!??!

So he braked hard in front of you just to be a pr*ck? :wtf:

That precisely what caused my accident.... pr!ck driving like a retard, me flashing at it to say "wtf", and it slamming on brakes causing me to skid out...

After that incident, I won't be doing the braking anymore, if someone brake tests me again, they will get 2.5tons of double cab up their rear end next time....

But do share the number plate Uncle Fazda....

Sorry man, I don't know.

Sadly the only thing you can do is just let the oke drive away.

I think when people get angry like that, rationality completely goes out the window. He was in the wrong, no doubt about it, but he probably doesn't see it that way. You flashing at him probably made him angry enough to punch you if you were standing at a bar instead of driving cars. As you were shaking, he would have been shaking with rage. Not saying his rage was justified at all.

Reminds me of a case that happened in the UK a few years ago. This lady cut someone off or something, I cant remember exactly what she did. Some minor infringement. Lets call her Betty. Now the person that this woman affected, we'll call her Shelly, flashed Betty to let her know she had done wrong. Betty got so angry that she turned her car around, and crashed into Shelly, tboning her and pining Shelly's car. Betty carries on spinning the wheels. Eventually, the tires burst and the wheels start digging into the ground. Betty's car catches fire, and she resists Shelly's efforts to get her out of her own car and save her life. Betty dies because of her own anger.

Okay I found a link, read it rather than my little story.

I know that road very well, having come from around those parts.

Dashcam is crucial these days.

If someone did that to me, because I have my dashcam, I would be laying a charge of reckless and negligent driving. Probably throw in attempted murder too because it's repeatedly clear, deliberate and dangerous actions.

The one thing I'm noticing more and more, is the lack of knowledge about a pedestrian's right of way at a zebra crossing. Silly example is walking on the pedestrian crossing to enter Makro and a car hooting at you - not for having suddenly walked in front of him (he is about 10m away) but because he has to now stop and wait for you.

Sometimes i wonder what happens with people once you get in a car (I'm not immune to it either!)
Saturday was driving in the Right lane came up to an Audi doing like 100 and there was a bakkie in the left lane but the audi was ahead of the bakkie enough to move over so i flashed my brights at him when i was still a bit away giving him time but nothing (assumed he didn't see), so i came up behind , flashed again nothing. tried one more time nothing. So i slowed down got behind the bakkie went to the far left lane and overtook both of them only to see Mr Audi busy on his cellphone. Of course me over taking seem to have clicked something to Mr Audi Maybe slower car like mines is not supposed to be in front of him and he puts his foot down, coming right up behind me - My first instinct was to break actually tapped my foot on it (since a few minutes ago this A$$ refused to move) - but luckily common sense prevailed and i moved left.

Yup.. have had that hooting thing at me on a Zebra crossing as well. The driver didn't really like it when I put my shopping down in the middle of the Zebra crossing, and shouted at him to go back to driving school and learn the rules of the road. His wife was very very upset with him. Could see him getting a talking to all the way across the parking lot :D

Hahahaha I must remember that ;)

Yesterday I was stuck in traffic on Jan Smuts. One of these courier vans came screaming up the side road joining Jan Smuts and braked with full force at the last second right in front of my left door. Honestly braced for the T-boning. After I saw he braked, like an idiot, I completely lost my cool. He actually smiled and didn't care, like it was a game.

I am cursing the fact that I don't have a dashcam!!

Indian "gentleman" ( probably in his 50's - had glasses on, but may have just been sunglasses) in a mink brown Hyundai i20 ND 611 ??? he finally filtered off at Quality Street, so possibly works in that area. - I stayed behind him, because when a person does that sort of thing, you don't know what will happen if you then pass him.

Bloody sonofabitch from Hell!

I lost my cool at a car behind me in Jhb CBD a few years ago. There is a traffic light that allows you to turn left only, but the taxis used it to go straight over, logically blocking the traffic. So this guy behind me (taxi was in front of me, so I couldn't move), started hooting like crazy. I lost it, showed him to pull over, and told him to relax. The taxis will just ignore him. The irony, I was furious when telling him to relax.

Jeez and I thought I had a bad day on the roads. Some of these are just... Madness.

Anyway, was driving around in the new household car, like a week and a half old basically (demo purchase). While near centurion mall I wanted to be in the lane to my right and was safe to be there as it was open in front and just a faraway truck in the lane after that. Put on my turn signal and checked again before turning, nothing. Then when I was about halfway into the lane I suddenly spy a red polo GTI that literally wasn't there a second a go, who was half a second away and then had to swerve back as he drove past at no less than 120 before going past me and pushing two lanes to my left as well by cutting through traffic and skipping the red light to take a left turnoff. Guessing he must have been a good bit behind the truck or covered by it or something... No pics due to sudden events.

Then on the way home, there was a Brakpan special Subaru (note the bottom left sticker). Didn't drive especially recklessly, just stupidly as he was flooring it during rush hour traffic in Sunnyside and took the rightmost lane to skip some of it. Said lane was about 30% occupied at some points by parked cars and he almost hit a few pedestrians as well. Pic number two shows the lane in question as he ran a yellow which I stopped at. Three km later he was 4 cars ahead of me.... Turned off before me or I'd have followed to see some more of his skills.

There is definitely a group of idiots who are buying Polio Gti's and Golf GTi's at the moment - you could have been describing the same red Polo GTi that did exactly that to me a couple of weeks ago - only in Durban!

BTW - I will forward your shot and what you said to Head Office - I actually think that that is one of our company cars being driven by a Cretin!

Aye I've noticed that more and more of those cars are driving horribly, likely connected to the lowered cost of ownership due to secondhand models etc. They've almost gotten as bad as BMW drivers in fact :D.

Hmm if that is well the case Fazda (and not just someone with a love for stickers) I hope it can be sorted out and would appreciate any updates on what happens. When I mentioned it during dinner my father said he sees the guy regularly enough and usually driving decently in the residential area, though he likely lives somewhat close to us as he supposedly drives through our street regularly. Maybe he just really hates traffic!

Do the cops actually issue a fine if you take your dashcam footage across and report someone? I suspect that they'll just nod and agree while you're there, and do nothing about it.

Anyone have any knowledge of cases where they actually fined people?

I think it might be less about fines or such and more for legality cases such as insurance or suing them for damage to property, or heaven forbid, loss of life. Would pretty much close a case against an individual if the video shows he was at fault I'd imagine.
