Bad Driving thread

The recent thing where people simply *have* to be one car closer to the traffic lights confuses me too. Even if there are 2 cars in front of someone and one car in the next lane, they'll quickly zip over, cutting in front of oncoming cars, to be 5m closer.

And what is with drivers and the "get in front syndrome"?

In general when the road narrows from one side, you always get the [afrikaans box] in his biggencar trying to race ahead and get the gap ahead of the car in front before the road narrows - either on the left side or the right with oncoming traffic.

This happens all the time. Your average Joburger needs to WIN. It is important for his sense of well being (and importance) that he gets in front of YOU. He is not concerned with actually getting to his destination faster. No, he just wants to beat you, and if you dare to try to prevent him from doing so, he will get very angry with you.

I have another story. This is not necessarily bad driving, but it is so common and I think it is so stupid. It happens all the time, so I will give an example.

I drive into my local Pick n Pay, behind another car. The car heads to the parking that is closest to the entrance. Note that the shops are now busy, so most of the parking lot is full. I head straight to the back, where I know there is always free parking. I park, because it does not take me long to find a free parking.

I walk into Pick n Pay, and as I am walking in, I see the car that was in front of me still waiting for a parking. Or still driving around looking for one that is close enough. Also note, I haven't had to walk particularly far. I'd say less than 50m.

I don't understand why people would rather wait for a parking instead of walking a little further. It's not like we walk much anyway, and you can get in and out of the shops much quicker if you just head straight to where you now there will be free parking.

Yeah, exactly that.

That's why I get the feeling they're not fully conscious humans, but some kind of self-aggrandizing robot.

50m walk?! Are you farking mad?!?!?! I'll use my dinosaur juice until I am assured that I will be walking no more than 10m to the shop entrance thank you very much... and then proceed to wander around the shops for over 1km, but thats not the point!

PS - this is even more hilarious in the US where all the not very small people make sure to ride around on electric trollies.

The best is when this happens at the gym. :wtf:

Jah, and people who want to park right outside the entrance to the gym. While there's a quasi-empty parking lot 50m away. #facepalm

Stupid twit in a small single cab white bakkie, CT registration ran a red this morning approximately 3 seconds after it went red. In fact it was green for me already by the time he entered the intersection. He proceeded to cut in front of a car a little while later as well. When I glared at him as I went past then all of a sudden he starts driving carefully, probably kept 3 cars lengths open between him and myself
And yesterday a mother in a silver car with no lights, in the rather dense fog. I wanted to turn right across the road and if I hadn't been more cautious than usual due to stupid morons like her we would've had a nice little chat while picking up pieces of our vehicles. And of course, no amount of hand signals or flashing of brights could even begin to help this driver realise why I was upset.

I need to design a basic message board and take it along with me, maybe then stupid drivers like the above will get the message.

I wish I had a display board on my car, so I could tell drivers how stupid they are.

Keep meaning to make some bumper stickers that say "the closer you get, the slower I go"

Just buy one.

Was driving home on the N2 last night. Was doing about 120km/h and was in the middle lane. As I came to a left bend in the road, some stupid lady in the fast lane cut over into my lane and almost collided with me.

Noticed this happens often, when someone takes a bend on the N1 or N2 they always veer over into the other lane.

HBB 627 EC, A white Jetta

On 17 October I was at the intersection of Govan Mebki Avenue and Mount Road at about 7pm. I was at a red light, in the second from the right lane, which goes straight accross. A Jetta pulls up in the lane to my right, a turning lane. While the light is red, he decides to cut in front of me, I assume to jump ahead when the light turns green.

He must have gotten impatient with how long he was waiting, as he then tried to run the red light. A car headed in the other direction went through the intersection, and would have hit him. This idiot reserved, almost hitting me, since I am at the front of the intersection.

At the next robot, he decided to make a right hand turn while the robot was red. A true idiot. I posted his plate number, but it wasn't in the normal font, so it could be fake.

The traffic light are already showing Green for me. Unfortunately I was unable to get a legible registration number.

So on the way home I take the exit from the n2. Stop at the top as per normal. Traffic from the right pull up and stop to take the turn right to go onto the n2. Traffic cop behind the first car. Won't this Fsuckn turd take the turn from Behind the car in front! Must have been late for donuts or something. Fsuckn disgrace. When I see that I think I'm too hard on normal drivers if the people that 'enforce' do the same.

All I got from that is that you use the N2 to get home.

Had a near death experience today on the N3 in Durban travelling in the slow lane.

Was in front of a huge white side-tipper truck with black and orange decals and the words "BB" on it. I was watching it in the rearview and was trying to see if he was braking for the slow traffic ahead. In my head I'm thinking to myself why is he not braking so I maneuver my car into the yellow lane. Lo and behold he realises he needs to brake and slams on the brakes dipping the truck cabin and then swerves into the middle lane almost smashing the Isuzu that was in front of me. Couldn't remember the number plate (all I remember is "093MP" or "073MP" with three alphabets in front)

He would have taken out a couple of cars if he didn't swerve and killed me in the process.
