Bad Driving thread

She is at the back. On the n2 the lighting is not adequate. And when we turn off there isn't any for a couple of kilometers.

I'm not entirely sure how my interior lights are affecting others negatively. I gauge speed by looking at lights In My rear view mirror. I fail to see how this reduces my visibility and ability to drive at night.

Your personal visibility OUT of the car is affected because you have a light in the car.

Not everyone else's.

What the actual fsuck are you talking about? How is it hindering me when I'm looking out infront of me. I can't see anything because my interior lights are on? Have any of you driven with your interior lights on. It doesn't affect how I drive. I don't lose the ability to drive with it on.

It reduces your visibility dramatically.

Maybe you should try driving with it OFF for a change and notice the massive difference.

Nothing at all....

4 lane freeway, with a 5th bus lane.

Knobjockey travelling in right hand "fast" lane at 80km/h whilst speed limit is 120km/h... 3 lanes to their left are empty or have light traffic, and they refuse to move over and get agro when you try indicate for them to move over.

Isn't the limit 80km/h and then 100km/h on the section with the bus lane?

And if there's nothing in the left lanes, just use them to go past the knobjockey :)

Don't be such a dick. Why would you assume it always happens? When I'm alone with her and she asks it goes on. If not nothing happens. Have you been on the n2 on that stretch of road with your interior light on? That you can comment so definitively? If not then rather refrain from commenting. All situations are different.

Obviously I become a worse driver since you guys have decreed it so. Fsuckn joke.

Actually you are right.. it is 80km/h moving up to 100km/h... not that anyone actually does those speeds on that stretch.. it seems 100km/h is the going speed for most ppl.

Not that I pay much attention to speed limits on freeways since my bakkie pretty much maxes out at 100km/h before i have to start wringing its neck...

Speed limit is ultimately irrelevant to this irritation though, since the law is pretty clear, drivers are meant to keep left.

No, its not because we have decreed so, its a fact, your visibility decreases dramatically if you have the interior light on, you become more of a danger on the roads just to keep your daughter happy...

You seem a little tense. Are you sure you're getting enough sleep? Being a parent to a toddler is a bitch - I remember twenty odd years ago when mine were that age.

Oh, and yes, I have driven with my interior light on - I turned it off again, because it affected my night vision. And I have brought up children without needing to leave lights on in cars. Driving on roads where there are no lights at all. They only started asking for the interior lights to be put on when they were old enough to read.

I kinda have to agree that interior light decreases your visibility outside of the car. It causes a reflection on your windows and creates a glare that reduces contrast to outside light. And it isn't only other car headlights you should be looking out for but all manner of possible dangers.

A good way to test this theory is if you look out of a window in your house at night with the lights on. You should be able to see very little outside. Turn the lights off and you should be able to see out much further. So an interior light in a car might not be as bright perhaps but there are degrees of effect.

Anyway if you feel this isn't affecting you due to some other factor then no stress :)

So kids are different. What a surprise. She is still 2. She gets some leeway. The once In A while when it happens I'll put it on. A scared kid crying on the back seat is more of a distraction for me. I'm not pulling over in the dark next to a squatter camp to soothe a crying toddler.

Do you have kids? If it makes her more comfortable then I do it. When she is snoring it goes off again.
As I said we do have a toddler and she is quite happy in the back when it is totally dark. She is in a rear facing seat and has a good view on what goes on outside the car even in the dark. You must be using one of those front/death facing seats?

And if I told you that it impacts your night vision by around 20%.. what then?

Tell the scared kid to suck it up and stop crying...

Going totally off the topic here, if that were my kid, I'd be more worried about why she is getting scared while sitting in the car with her parent(s) right there.

You supposed to use the rear facing till a certain age only. Toddlers don't go in rear facing seats. I haven't seen any toddlers in them.

Coz everything is in total darkness? She sleeps without a nightlight so it's an anomaly.
