He should just have overtaken you on the right. Did the ahole actually flash his brights at you?
Just don't brake test, the best thing to do it clean your windows with your window sprayers, leaves a nice fine mist on the window of the car behind you.
There is no flash and move over law or bylaw in SA. You have to keep left though and pass to the right.
Truth then. My leaarners in 2000... sorry guys. There is on the freeway.
No he didn't flash me in this instance, however I could see he was in a huge rush as he was driving right up my @rse for some distance, when he got a gap he flew into the middle lane and proceeded to then overtake the gent in the middle lane, got into the fast lane then swerved sharply again into the MIDDLE lane then into the SLOW lane again - all this whilst accelerating, might i add! therefore if he had such an "emergency" he should either have had his hazards flashing with his lights on, or he should have used the "emergency lane" which to my knowledge is for such instances or am I misinformed there?

Well, then we are talking about a totally different type of scene here than what we have a problem with you doing. Brake test him if he is up your ass, whatever, just don't enforce the "the law" if someone flashes you with intention to overtake, if there is space open on the left lane for you to safely move over, just move over.
That is a completely different story altogether then....
Still don't brake test the guy, that is monumentally retarded.
I was a victim of this a good few months ago. Some retard who was clearly drunk and too impatient was trying to push between me and the car I was overtaking (2 lane freeway, at night in the rain)... When there was space for me to move over after I had completed the overtaking move, I tried to move over only to find that the guy had sped into the space on my left, so I had to swerve back into the right lane... after the retard had gone passed me and pulled back into the right lane (very close in front of me I might add), I flash the guy as a way of saying :wtf:... he then brake tested me and I had to drop anchors which caused me to spin out and caused R25k damage to my car... and then almost got taken out by a big ass truck a few minutes later.
Primary reason I now have a dashcam, next retard that does that to me will get the insurance company after them as well as the police.... (that is of course assuming I drop anchors again in a similar situation.. I have a towbar in the front of my bakkie that is anchored to 3 places on the chassis so yeah)....
Sheeesh! okay that is kark dude!
No, like I say I am not a complete ar$hole lol, if i can see see someone is just being a complete nuisance on the road then it gets my blood boiling. Agreed, it is not my place to try to be the Law
I dont' agree with brake checking, but how exactly will the dashcam help in this scenario? All the other driver has to say is that he/she was braking to avoid something they saw in the road and hey presto it goes from deliberate to accidental.

Yeah, not so much.... The dash cam will register if there was something there before or after the brake checking.
I concur. I detest drivers who believe its their God given right to enforce traffic laws. It's very simple, if a car comes up at some speed behind you in the fast lane and flashes you to get out the way, just get out the ****ing way and let them carry on. it's not rocket science!
To those of you who think you're clever by brake checking other drivers; you're not. Stop it. idiots.
You will hate me. I drive and if someone flashes to give way, I will WHEN it is safe to do so. Also. If you are one of those drivers that drives on another car's a$$, then that dashcam might count against you.
This, I am happy to move over IF I CAN AND IT'S SAFE TO DO SO. But if I am unable to do so the second you flash me, climbing up my @ss and tasting my exhaust fumes is NOT going to help. Luckily this doesn't happen often, but you get the odd douche that behaves like this. I won't brake-check you, but friggin' wait until I CAN move over.
B
Yeah true, i was also thinking the only thing that is going to prove is
a. You were driving too close
b. you were driving too fast
they will easily come back to the driver and say you weren't keeping the designated following distance which is there to avoid accidents in the case of sudden breaking etc, which obviously has to be increased in times of low visibility etc...
