Sounds like a decatted C63. Sure it's loud, but unless he's driving up and down the same road continuously popping and banging while downshifting, where is the issue? Grumpy old man syndrome?

I agree with the car being unroadworthy due to the plates.

I have questions though. Who's recording? Doesn't look like a mounted dashcam? You on a bike or bicycle? Or are you holding your phone recording while driving?

That's exactly what these twats do all day - drive along Beach Rd, then to camps bay, then back via mojo Market - desperate attention seekers.

It passes roadworthy as new from factory. If down the line the CAT is removed and there is an increase in toxic gas levels or permitted noise emission for the class of vehicle - then it is illegal. The vehicle can be impounded and deregistered.

Where exactly are emissions tested in south Africa when taking your car through roadworthy?
How is the police on a roadblock going to even know/measure you are decatted or have a high flow or catless downpipes fitted? Where are the regulations listed what I can fit and what is considered illegal in terms of modifications? This is not the UK or Germany where every mod needs to be registered or listed.

I am sure some V8s have a quiet startup mode. Most pre OPF V8s dont. The loud startup serves a reason on most V8s and that's to heat up your cats quicker for emission purposes. Even the BMWs straight 6 lineup (pre OPF) has a rather loud startup, so loud that most owners actually use an aftermarket tune to delete the cold start.

So you're saying every factory stock V8/V10 that barks on a cold startup is a piece of crap?

If in Cape Town, either gallows Hill technical centre, or Milnerton.
They also have the correct acoustic measuring equipment in an area that complies with specifications required for acoustic compliance tests.

Quiet v8's are great.



My area is peppered with exotic cars - porsche, lambos, aston martins, ferrari, mclaren, maseratis (go look at the photos I've posted in the rare cars thread), but it's the wannabe's in their mid range bmw's or mercs that try compete - but only accomplish making more noise than a SA Breweries multi axle delivery truck

So if I take my car to any other roadworthy centre that does not have the correct equipment to measure acoustics and the vehicle passes, what then? I've not once seen them do an acoustic or emission test at the roadworthy centres in my area.

I was asking. It was a genuine question. If my car passed roadworthy with the mods, how can it be invalidated at a later stage when hitting a roadblock by being to loud? Do you see where the problem lies?

Many stock pre OPF V8s have a loud startup when cold. C63, R8, mustang, Corvette, list goes on. I call it a bark. There might be another term for it. By no means does it sound broken

I never said it sounded good. I said that Merc is most probably decatted. Sadly, most C63's W204s are decatted and have been abused over the years. They are loud enough stock and to me one of the best sounding V8s ever made.

Got yesterday the finger and stink eye from somebody trying to push into a queue when turning left for a highway onramp. I blocked him since, when turning left, there's usually some pedestrians standing on the side of the road, and I did not want to have a car on my right (onramp is a single lane btw) should I need to make a sudden move towards the right should a pedestrian move into the road. He thought he could turn and pass me on my right and cruise down the onramp...

Gave me the finger all the way down and when zooming past me. Probably had a bad start to his day.

btw - lots of entitled folks on the road these days. I now tend to choose my routes with more care, so as to avoid the entitlement squad.
