Baking afficionados

Apart from PCs and ovens what other methods do people turn to for keeping a fairly constant 22°c in winter?

Something like this perhaps?

I've used my 3d printer, electric blanket, PC room, oven etc.
With sourdough consistency is key though so finding something repeatable is important.
I've been thinking of buying a reptile pad and using an old blanket as they are only R200-250 and adjustable.

On top of your fridge might also be an option.

I was thinking more along the lines of https://familypetcentre.co.za/products/reptile-resort-heating-pad-rpr-hhp01, perhaps with a fan for cooling, and a STC 1000 Digital Temperature Controller to maintain a constant temp.

Thanks for the idea but it's not warm enough - our kitchen is at a chilly 19° right now.

Surprisingly the oven with just the light on gets to over 26° (which is too high).

The STC will be more accurate for a bit more hassle to set up.
If you proof at 28C you should be good and not need a fan for most houses. The STC gives you the option to add one though.

Bulk fermenting at 23°c then cold proofing in the fridge for 2-3 days.

Only 1kg at the moment but working on scaling it to ±15kg by the end of the year and I want scalability consistency.

I mean I wouldn’t say that’s too high, if consistent, but will need to adjust timing a bit.

Annoyingly my oven is always fan on, no option to just have the light.

yup thats the one
Finally got a chance to pick up the heating mat and the thermostat is defective. Temu refunded me instantly but now I have to wait a couple of weeks for the replacement.

Hmm, I wonder how warm those biltong box things get.

Maybe they could be repurposed for this.

I use my DIY biltong box for this, I just turn the fans off and run the STC with thermostat works like a bomb

I plan on connecting the fan from my old biltong box and control it with the STC (when it arrives) to better control the temp.

Turns out the thermostat didn't suck - just the instructions.

My wife got me the perfect loaf book a few weeks back for my day my what an awesome sourdough book highly recommend.

Decided to knock out a loaf this weekend. Wanted to start getting back into my hobbies since the little guy arrived 4 months ago. He too will bake with me as I baked many years back with my Ouma.

Here's to the house smelling like fresh bread again!

Did you still have some starter?

Been baking up a storm working my way through the perfect loaf sourdough cook book. https://www.theperfectloaf.com/best-sourdough-recipe/

I saw a double loaf pan trend pop up in my feed last week, the results were amazing! Also the fact you can bake many loaves up to 6/8 at a time. Although I would do 2 without a Dutch oven and cheap tins really caught my attention.

Did a high hydration loaf this morning almost 48hours fermented. The taste... A thing of beauty!
