Floating alien creatures? This could ruin the series. They should stick to fantasy and not science fiction. A storyline that doesn't ruin the series is a big part of a game. It's not just the game play and graphics.
First I heard of them. Shows how much I know.Illithid/Mindflayers are a core D&D character. Not in the least bit Sci fi.
Although there is something a bit scifi'ish about the Nautiloid ships they use to fly through the Astral Plane.

They should do a CRPG set in the Spelljammer campaign setting, could make for some interesting gameplay mechanics.
Also the Nautiloids are from Spelljammer setting if I remember correctly which is a bit scifi-ish compared to the other settings.
I guess the Buldar's Gate III story will have a lot to with the Astral Plane. The Illithid, as seen in the trailer, and the Githyanki will be the leading plot races.
Yes well can't do an Illithid story without the Githyanki and hopefully the Githzerai.
I must say the Underdark part of BG2 where you had to face off against the Illithid was nerve wrecking. Trying to protect all your major damage dealers from mind control so that they do not wipe out your whole party in one go was a bitch.
Ah man this is good stuff! GO FOR THE EYES, BOO!
27th February... I guess they will announce the release at around 1-year later.
