Is Messi once again.
Jose Mourinho go coach of the year
Altintop got goal of the year... which imo shouldn't have been given to him.
Oh and Desmond Tutu got Presidential award.

If this year's award wasn't combined then wes sneijder would have won the balon d'or. For those who don't know before this year there were two awards the fifa world player of the year voted for by the international managers and captains and the balon d'or voted by european football writers.

If it was like in previous year's this would be the results for balon d'or 1.sneijder 2.iniesta 3. xavi 4.messi. So wesley basically lost out because of those who don't watch european football week and week out voted for the more glamorous player.

At least justice was done in the manager award with mou winning.

fully agree, should have been Sneijder

Everyone saying should of been Iniesta or Xavi, now the question is why ? Just because they won the World Cup with Spain. The award goes to player of the year and not who won what. Sneidjer was good, but Messi deserves it and the way he is playing. Don't be suprised if 3 in a row

Should have been Xavi - and no not only because Spain has won the world cup.

Xavi is influential in both Barcelona and Spain. Whenever his team mates are on the ball, they always look for this man in the middle of the park. He dictates the game in such a special way. He is creative and can see a pass way before the receiver even thinks of it. He is a pass master of note. Like I said - he does this at both Barca and Spain and without Xavi, there is no dictator for both teams.

Another reason why I wanted Xavi to get it because he is good for maybe one more season because of age, and I felt this year was his best bet at getting it.

In the same breath, not taking anything away from Messi or Iniesta, but I feel Messi still has many years left in him in order to win this award. I also believe that Messi is yet to hit his prime.

Xavi is not any better than his Barca\Spanish team mates. They are all good at passing the ball. Messi on the other hand gives u a lot more than pass the ball

I think you greatly underestimate the impact Xavi has on both the Spanish national team and Barcelona.

Fact is Xavi is not World player of the year and will be forgotten as soon as he retires, Messi is and will continue to be for a long time to come. At the end of his career he might even be the greatest of them all, surpassing Pele and Maradona

I think because Xavi is almost never on the score sheet, people tend to not see him. All they see is Messi, Villa, Pedro or Bojan scoring. Take Xavi out of the team and see if Barcelona tick on like they currently do. That midfield basically comes to a halt without Xavi.

I tend to disagree - I think Xavi will be remembered for years to come by true soccer lovers, along with Iniesta as well. There are not many with the talents these 2 have.

The Maradona's and Pele's - it seems you tend to favour strikers and remember strikers quicker than midfielders. Ever heard of Xabi Alonso? lol

Point I'm trying to make - doesn't mean that a player that do not score many goals in his career will not get remembered as one of football's greats after his career has ended or is not influential in the team's success.

I also believe that Xavi has more influence on a game than what Messi does.

Don't get me wrong, I love watching Messi play, the boy is a master at what he does, A Zidane of 2010 somewhat.

I think Barca has the best team in the world at the moment...

The simple fact of the matter is that they didn't have many good games when Xavi was out. Fact. When Messi isn't there, there's always Bojan, Pedro, Villa to score goals. If Xavi isn't there, there's no one to dictate the pace of the game. Simple really.

Maldini, Banks, Beckenbauer, Yashin, Baresi... none of them scorers of goals, but all of them legends that will be remembered for a long time to come.
