Hi Guys,

I have a client who wants to track their dsl usage as he thinks that it is abnormally high. The thing is, he has 3 offices so I have to separate each session to the corresponding office(tel no)

I have managed all of this so far, but my issue comes in when I try to add the bandwidth, as Axxess has generated a csv that uses both MB and KB in its amounts. This will take forever to convert them all to KB, so the question is: does anyone know of a way that wont take me 100 years to do?

I cant believe that Axxess do this, so frustrating.

I have already suggested a proxy server to him, as even if he does isolate which branch is using the bulk of the data he has no idea who it is and what it is that they are blowing it on. 18GB for about 50 Staff (accounting&estate agents)

Wow 18 whole gigs a month for 50 staff. 368megs per staff member... that is nowhere near excessive and easily accounted for by anti-virus/ windows updates and a little facebook time. This comes in at R380 if you use Afrihost.

Honestly the cost to track down where this bandwidth is going will far outweigh any benefit in terms of data cost. Just get him to move to a better package.

+1. We have about 25 machines, and consume about 20GB per month. With the current pricing on ADSL, I don't know what your accountant is fretting about. Perhaps get him to read this thread. If you have a Windows Network, which you most likely do, then be sure to install WSUS (Windows Server Update Services). All your Windows and Microsoft updates are downloaded to one server, and all the local machines download the updates from this server over the local network. This makes for speedy updates, and will clear most bottlenecks on the ADSL line, and save on bandwidth costs.

On the flipside though, an increase in internet bandwidth usage is almost always related to a decrease in employee productivity - more Youtube, Facebook and other time-wasters - which inevitably slows down the internet connection for those people who are acutally trying to do real work.)
