Gleaning a look at the near future with technologies like Google Wave and the like close to finalization and introduction I cannot help but wonder where South Africa will fit into all of these progressive technologies from an adoption and usage point of view? None of the new really cutting edge technologies can function without proper bandwidth because they are of such a nature that the amount of information being sent back and forth are equal to that of doing desktop sharing on a massive scale to be honest. SEACOM and company better bring us what we need at a price we need or we will simply not be able to afford catching up for starters and then staying with the pack in future.

The level of interactivity and collaboration between individuals and groups of people are on the increase and when products like Google Wave come to market living in a country where bandwidth is expensive and caps are low will be tantamount to making peace with being eternally backward. There are no excuses that can explain why we have been bullied, victimized and crippled on the scale that we have been here in South Africa pricing and technology wise. It is simply unforgivable to say the least, but the wave of web enhancements coming in the near future have upped the alert level to a point where if we do not get our act together soon, we will seriously be left behind because we will have all the old tools to our disposal with nobody left to talk to because the world will be communicating in ways we simply cannot afford to access and don’t have the speeds to efficiently use.
The time to get it right is now! If we don’t we will end up with a much more expensive hill to climb.
