I am looking for a router or a combination of router and another device for the following purposes.

I want to restrict access to certain websites, or give someone a limited amount of time on a specific website. e.g. User must only have 1 hour of Youtube time.
I also want to give specific MAC's a certain amount of bandwidth.

What do you guys recommend? TIA

This one is quite hard to setup on an normal router, I think you need premium router like a cyberoam or fortinet, which is expensive. Probably not worth it for home use. Not sure if mikrotik can do it with some scripts.

You can limit bandwidth on mikrotik router which is cheap.

I think, and please correct me if I'm wrong, you could setup Layer 7 protocols with regex and allow/block youtube that way on a Mikrotik

I will need a Unifi AP since Mikrotek does not have wifi.
How would Opensense/PFSense work in this case?

Can someone explain this like it's a flow chart?
Telkom line -> Some wonderful router -> Some PC with Opensense/PFSense or is there a better/simpler way of doing things?

There is mikrotik routers with wifi, but the wifi is not great on them.

Not sure if you need PFsense also, the mikrotik can be a firewall and filter traffic etc.

There are scripts to do this for Mikrotik. It monitors traffic in the queue you make for the user and then limits their speed when it hits the stated limit in script or can further block their connection etc. but this would need to be on a UPS as a power failure will reset the counters and give the user access again till they reach their scripted limit.

So Mikrotik is the best out there?

I would've expected something simple from Asus where all of this can be done through their web app.

So when I initially opened this thread, it was meant for a colleague and me. He wants limitations, but I don't.
What is the best Mikrotik Router that money can buy, for me?

Most of the Mikrotik routers are good value for money. You need to define your requirements a bit better.

* What types of ports? Copper, fibre, GigE or FastE?
* Throughput? Different models range from about 20 Mbps to over 20 Gbps.
* WiFi requirements
* Power? AC or DC? Redundant?
Etc

* What types of ports? Copper, fibre, GigE or FastE? COPPER, since fiber is a myth in my area.
* Throughput? Different models range from about 20 Mbps to over 20 Gbps. 20mbps is the max in my area
* WiFi requirements well.... apparently, mikrotik wifi is crap and I have to settle for a Unifi AP
* Power? AC or DC? Redundant? I don't know. Don't we use both?
Etc

The RB2011uias-2hnd

plus Ubiquiti Unifis (wifi APs) pretty much do the job for me.

The only thing I don't do is block YouTube etc but I could if I needed to.
