Why not post your bandwidth saving tips here, seeing as SAIX is kindly hardcapping us ADSL users until further notice. :( ( Please post useful tips, and not just humourous garbage. :D )

#1: Stream audio at 48K AAC+

(Similar sounding quality to 128K and a nice b/w saver if you're into streaming audio across the net.)

#2: Download Spybot and scan for spyware every few days
#3: Download AVG and scan for viruses (virii, whatever) every dew days
#4: Download large files at a friend's house and slap it onto cd :D

#5 If your not using net/ or pc idling - Turn off your modem :D

Yes thats #5 then
#6: Keep your login details a secret.. write them somewhere and hide it well, dont save as an sms on your cell :)

lol i can't believe we have to resort to bandwidth saving tips.

#7 download songs at 96kbps or 112kbps

#x (cos' some oaks type slow so the no's get screwed) Go slow on the Internet,Only use one third of the allocated 3 gig (or other), let the other 2 gig slip, TELKOM needs it so they can steal more revenue. The poor B@stards!!. As someone said. YOU CAN TAKE TELKOM OUT OF THE POST OFFICE, BUT CANNOT TAKE THE POST OFFICE SYNDROME OUT OF TELKOM therefore we now have broadband Teletext, to read our E-mails

#8: Use Firefox, install the Firefox adblock extension and add ad filters when you find ads while browsing. (or copy a filter list from a friend or the internet)
#9: Use your e-mail's web access page (if you have) to delete e-mails you don't want to download to your PC.
#10: Don't browse sites with lots of videos as those sites eat bandwidth.

#8 stop clicking "refresh" on this thread. You're making matters worse :-)
#9 install firefox and adblock, but use the dev branch instead http://adblock.mozdev.org/dev.html as this can block adverts BEFORE they are loaded, instead of just blocking them fron view like the normal ablock
#10 if firefox+adblock isnt your cup of tea, create an elaborate hosts file to block all the flash serving/image serving adservers pointing to 127.0.0.1 instead
#11 for an infestimally small decrease in bandwidth, install a caching dns server on a system on your lan and use that for lookingups. Install a caching proxy server for a better increase in savings (squid anybody?)
#12 set your browser to browse in text mode only:-) old skool kool!

Alternatively you can just turn off the 'load images' option in your browser.
I do this when i'm browsing on GPRS - it saves me about 60% of my bandwidth... never thought i'd have to do it on an ADSL line though

This is ridiculous!!!! I can't beieve it..

Only go on after 7 at night, as in Dial-Up days???!!!!!

View everything in MATRIX mode. instead of looking at a webpage view the source.... After a while it is as clear as day light. Do you think that is air you are breathing?

# 13 - Join Web Africa ; if you are unable to connect you can't possibly use any bandwidth.

OK, the problem is fixed ; let the bandwidth rot begin !

Stop being abusers - 1gb should be plenty for anyone. Telkom knows whats best for us. Believe in the telkom . . .
