I've notices since a while now that the daily usage reports reflect much more use of bandwidth than I actually generate (as recorded with vnstat on my ubuntu machine). Sometimes it is double or even triple. From the helpdesk I recently got a spreadsheet with 'detailed' usage stats (up and down per hour). From that it seems that at times my use is so high that download speeds of up to 1.5 Mb/s would be required! As far as I know these speeds are not even possible with the current Iburst modem (I never get any higher than 0.9Mb/s whenever I do a speedtest).

I am connecting to the iburst modem through a wireless router. For some reason this double reporting is mainly happening after hours (00.00-07.00). I've been battling to get a useful response from the helpdesk for 9 months now. Any ideas?

thats odd as between those hours your usage should be less then actual usage.

are you reading it corectly AFAIK your ubuntu machine should actualy calculate a higher usage then ibursts actual usage (due the the lower charge for midnight to morning)
Can you post both logs so we can figure this out for you

PM me your UTID and I'll have a look. I haven't encountered any wrong usage calculations for yonks!

I'm using Networx to monitor my usage for all machines on my wifi network.

Usage from Networx (up & down) = 168GB
Usage from iBurst daily report = 188 963.11 MB

Eithe iBurst is over reporting or Network is under reporting. I have changed different settings in Networx but cannot get it close to what iBurst reports.

the stats from my Netgear router = 163 197 Mbytes (this from 02/05/11 as I reset the router)

My router stats and from Networx are more in sync than what iBurst reports.

I don't mind if iBurst over estimates my usage this month so that I can win the 2 Mb/s modem :p

Just realized the difference could be coming from my other modem at another location so the usage reports are correct.

if you only used 1 modem this month you would have had a better chance of wining

I'm still in the lead with my 2 modems and with the closest person behind me trailing by more than 20gigs. I recon if I can get at least 210 gigs combined I'll walk away with the modem.

i think my usage is also not correct, because i had 2 gig's and i only watched a few video's on youtube and next day i had 400mb left.
but i hardly watch so many vids on youtube that it could be around 400mb maybe. Yesterday i saw i had 161mb left and today i only have 31mb left. I only received a 18mb email, so how could i used so much data. its weird
