Bandwidth is a measure of the quantity of signals that can travel over a transmission medium such as copper or a glass fibre strand. It is the available space available to carry a signal. The greater the bandwidth, the greater the information carrying capacity. Bandwidth is measured in bits per second. The amount of data that can be carried from one point to another in a given time period (usually a second).
