Bank Fees !!!

You do. My banking is free most months. In May, my fees were R58 and my interest was R92.

Hmm, this is looking good, can't get anywhere near that with any Standard Bank account.

What really gets me is that they have no facility where you can earn interest on the funds in your transaction account. I want to cancel my O/D facility, but I can only do that if I have a transactional account that pays interest.

A bit off... But is there really a true advantage in using private banking?

Well FNB premier waves your R199 fee if you maintain a min balance of 50k so if you have that kind of savings then you can leave it there and then that would be pretty decent. Not sure how Capitec interest would stack up if you maintained a min balance of 50k but then even if you getting your fees free with interest you are stuck with capitec...

The FNB easy bundled account wacks Capitec out of the park to be honest. Capitec stopped sending me sms about my banking fee savings when my charges started reaching R110... FNB easy was good to me very affordable if you take the bundled option.

I'm thinking of staying with FNB Premier for now the ebucks earned and the R199 fee a month might work better for me. Earning back the account fee in ebucks is better than just spending banking fees outright on Capitic IMO.

Comes in handy sometimes when out of country etc.

Wife account was blocked( internet banking side, not the card), I contacted private banker at 10pm in evening on the app, she phoned my international number to verify me and unblocked it. My wife's fingerprint keeps on screwing around on the fnb app, so it sometimes block her.

Capitec would told you to go a branch lol

50k minium balance :crylaugh:

Yeah, you'll probably make more than what your bank fees cost in interest if you just move the R50k to a 32 day account

I have always relied on an overdraft facility in the past when sudden withdrawals or debit orders pop up, but Standard have pretty much destroyed this option with their "massive" overdraft fees. I believe that FNB does the same.

If you opt for the 50k minimum with FNB, what happens if you briefly go below this 50k, do they whack you for the total monthly fee, or is it pro-rata ?

The FNB option is attractive, as I already have a FNB Premier CC, and am being whacked on fees for this, but I really want a facility that pays interest on the transaction account so that I can do without the OD facility.

Which again pushes me towards Capitec, none of the majors seem to offer this ? FNB don't, it seems.

Fnb has a savings pocket. Just keep your money in there and then transfer it back to your Cheque account whenever you want to use it. So simple

No, not so simple, sometimes a debit pops out of nowhere, or a few days early, then you go below the 50k balance, even if just for a day or two.

This type of solution does not really work for me, the Capitec approach is much better.

I'm really looking for a transaction account that earns interest, then I can leave 75k in there and not worry about nonsense. None of the majors seem to offer this, for good reason of course, so that they can gouge you.

FNB has no overdraft fees on private clients package or higher. Comes in handy, you only pay for the interest.

That would be great.

Yes, Standard used to be like this, then out of the blue they started charging massive overdraft availability fees on my Private Banking account, Standard has gone to hell.

Seems there is no real good option. FNB decent banking solutions and fees can be earned back in ebucks.

Capitec flat fees that can add up should you do a lot of transactions but you can earn interest if you keep some money there. No ewallet with Capitec and the card is not as good as it can be. Certain line transactions decline where other cards would work. Car rental companies do not accept capitec cards...

It's been dwindling lately with the new rules though.

Most, including me, is paying less than R50 in fees though.

True but you can send money to another Capitec user via his number.

Never had that before.

Car rental companies do not accept capitec cards...

Is there anyone who prefers Absa? I would walk into standard bank before taking a simple glance at Absa.

I would rather cut my nuts out with a blunt teaspoon than go into another StandardBank branch.

Im thinking of getting a Capitec account for my normal day to day usage and an FNB credit card for the online shopping etc. I still need to find a CC only option on the FNB site to compare fees and interest rates.

Why don’t you get the bundled easy account from Fnb. It’s R58pm debit card and credit card included

Yeah happened to me a coyple of times. Certain online purchases would decline. Certain international purchases and the most recent one Telkom online portal and OR Tambo pre booked parking on airports website. Capitec decline those purchases.

As for car rentals when I had an accident my insurer said I need to collect my rental from first car rental. Arrived when I wanted to pay the deposit they refused to accept my Capitec card. I told them they can't do that it's a master card just like the rest but they refused so I had to withdraw cash at the atm.

Was using Capitec since 2008 to 2015 then I switched to FNB.

I tried everything but failed to lower my banking fees lower than R90. That was the lowest it ever was but usually over R100. Back then I used to pay every single payment with debit order and that really pushed fees up.
