Bank Zero tested

  • Capture a series of selfies — looking forward, looking over your left shoulder, and looking over your right shoulder.
  • Record one of the sentences the app will give you to speak.
  • Upload pictures of your ID, driver’s licence, or passport.
  • Upload proof of address.
Kind of what European digital banks are doing as well - capture selfie, proof of identity, tax number etc.

Please DM me an invite code/link to signup for the waiting list? The one in the article leads to the websites front page and there doesn't appear to be a route to get on it.

It's on the front page. Look for "Want to be on the waiting list?" and expand it.

If you signed up as a beta tester you are already on the list.

Probably a requirement from card network like master card/visa, ensures maximum compatibility if for some reason you find yourself somewhere that is still swipe heavy like the usa (apparently).
not a card network requirement AFAIK

if the issuer is going to decline all swipes then compatibility has flown out the window already anyway

Competition is good and all, but I am battling to see any reason to change banks - or even just use them as a backup. Am I missing something?

Dunno...right now I would never consider them for a primary account. This thing being entirely digital worries me a bit. Someone breaks into my car and steals my stuff, the only way to get them to freeze my accounts seems to be via email..fk knows how long that's gonna take. I also know how frustrating support can be when the person trying to help you just isn't understanding your written request for help and you actually just need to speak to someone.

Yeah I understand this sort of thing. A lot of people had endless pain with Tyme. I don't know if I could ever use them as my primary account, but they sure come out on top when it comes to interest rates. Bank Zero don't have anything like a lovely interest rate to attract me though.

Iv signed up. I'm worried. If they can't even create a decent Ui for either iPhone or Android after how many years how can they even keep R100 safe.

People have been laughing at Captec's 1990's UI for years but yet they still come up on top in the mobile/IB rankings.
Still leaps and bounds better than this Ui. Heck even tymebank started with an aesthetically pleasing UI.

I received a link this morning to let me know I can open my account. This is done via downloading the TESTFLIGHT app from the app store (I use an iPhone). The email provides you with a code which you put into TESTFLIGHT and that then downloads the BANKZERO app.

It took me 3 minutes to open my account. The only issue I had was when you select between "collect my card" and "deliver my card" I first selected the collect option. The problem is that it prompts you to select a store where to collect the card from (I believe this is from a Clicks store) but there are no stores to select and I could not see a way around this. I then selected the deliver option.

I also transferred a few Rand from my FNB account to the new Bank Zero account. FNB has already added Bank Zero to its list of banks for payment purposes.

I'm keen to see how long it takes before the funds reflect in the Bank Zero account.

Since they use Testflight, the Bank Zero app is clearly still in Beta testing mode. I am one of the people who laughs at Capitec Bank's app (I do have an account with them). The Bank Zero app does have a similar UI experience to the Capitec app but "dumbs" it down even further. Gone is the Capitec account names list which is replaced by an account list that have photos. So you can assign each account a separate image. Interesting design idea ......
The UI is extremely basic but does have options for payments, transfers, send money and buy.

The app even provides for "business functionality" meaning you can add users who are allowed to load beneficiaries and create payment batches. The app then states that these users are not allowed to release a payment though as the account holder does that. They are clearly catering for small businesses that have a PA/administrator/bookkeeper.

Anyone been able to receive a link with for Android or are all the invite links for the ios test flight only?
Struggled to get a clear understanding from the website about this.

I received an iOS test flight invite this morning. I replied asking about Android but no response as yet

They want a R79 fee to open the account, not sure about whether I want to pay that yet.

The R79 is the card fee. That is if you collect the card from a Clicks Store.
It is R179 if they deliver the card to your house.

Whatever they call it, it is a fee to open the account. I could be wrong but don't remember paying to open Capitec or Tyme accounts

Yikes, just signed up for the "test" app registration and I am not impressed at all with the way the app functions right now.

The app design and general feel is seems extremely cheap and updating anything in the settings either freeze the app or simply doesn't save.

No idea how something so long in production can launch feeling so cheap, won't be using this until there is major improvements if not an entire rewrite of the app.

Make sure you switch on google apps store to the email account you used to pre-signup on bankzero so that you can find the bankzero dev app on google apps, otherwise it won't be available.

Also you likely got the email from [email protected] stuffed in google spam folder, at least that is where it went for me.

Capitec gives a free card when you open the account. I'm not sure but think I even got my first token free. Tyme gives you your first card for free.
