Banks eye cellphone users

the sms charges for these services.. are they std price or special service prices

I think they are special service prices, FNB charges 20c/20sec.

I think its USSD-based rather than sms-based.

Agree. Most important is that they do not charge for access to the functionality. The usage part is something different. Wonder if there is some kickback? Must be else it would never be 'free' from a bank. Banks would sell their mothers rather than give something really free.

FNB ftw :) ABSA will charge for it come end of the year. They charge for internet banking, I don't see why they won't capitalise on cellphone banking as well.

Its criminal that banks charge for online banking as they have no costs when the customer access it... we use our bandwidth.... come on stop ripping us off... you should be greatful we not using the atms as its much more expensive to operate for the banks..

for sure they will eye cell phones... no stone is left unturned for banking profits!

FNB doesnt charge for intenet banking.

Yes that is true. I would think it is because that encourages one to do more banking transactions, which does incur some fee.
Must say that FNB is the cheapest overall on fees, because of their capping on certain accounts.
With Cellphone banking the ballgame is different. FNB might get a kickback on your charges. But then so, I am just speculating.
