Hi all,

I'm looking to install a basic CCTV system (External) for my place. Don't want to spend more than R1500. I saw on bidorbuy that with the 4 cameras, you can get the complete system. Anyone implemented something like this?

Regards

For a decent CCTV system R1500 won't even buy you a single camera.

Sahara always bombard me with adverts for CCTV. Will cost you more than 1.5K though. Need wires as well.
Damn! that price is good @ bidorbuy

Does these systems include some sort of alerting or do you have to watch the camera's screen all the time?

I need to know when there is a person close to my house. A beep or soft alarm and then I just want to watch on a tv or screen what's happening outside.

No alarm and no movement detection. That will cost a lot more.
Those systems do a alright job. You'll need a Hard drive though min 1tb.

What is the point? What are you going to do with anything you capture? There are a lot of IF's
IF the police can identify the suspects ..
If the police can actually find them and make an arrest....
IF the the case ever makes it to court...

You're looking closer to R3250 retail, but I've got a 4 camera Hikvision DVR and 4 IR cameras installed and it gives good enough quality for my purposes.

The DS-7104HWI-SL DVR and DS-2CE15C2P-IR cameras are what I've got. The DVR does alarms, adjustable motion detection and can send emails. If you don't need IR, then you can knock about R800 off the price.

Couple of sample videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PGC9f6YaX4 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WI3hiwHKw98

I have one with a dvr(no hdd) two cameras and cables and it cost me about R1.8k but i dont use it. Pm me if you want to buy it

Dogs bark or electric fence goes off etc you go to monitor to see what's happening instead of sticking your head out. Also can be used as evidence and can be used to identify intruders.
I have plenty cameras around the house and facing the street as well as a Ptz camera. It's good to know what you up against beforehand.

I purchased one of these basic kits a couple of months ago, and they work ok, I got the 8 camera kit for R2k, if you want I can send you the info of the dude that sells them, he is quite decent and backs up his products.

I haven't finished setting it up, I tend to procrastinate.

The image is ok, neither here nor there, always possible to get better cameras, at night the LED are quite weak but I have the cameras near spot lights but if I didn't they would be useless at night.

The DVR does come with motion sensor, sending alerts and all that, but as soon as it got to the various technical aspects I fell asleep, but it has various features, you can show the pictures split screen, or slide show, set times when and how to record. Having 8 sets of wires ending up at the TV was a bit of a mission, a lot of cable around the house...I should actually finish setting this up.

Yes we bought our system at china mall, R5000 8 cameras and dvr.
You can also try http://cctv-direct.co.za/ for prices. R1500 not going to get you much.

i can watch the house when out and about, nice to have. So very easy to do, just get some boys to run the cables for you, that's the hardest work.

That bid or buy deal is not bad for 4 cameras, my colleague spent R5000 on 16 cameras, needless to say i was pissed! lol

the Aurora range of Kview products Esquire and TVR sell are fantasic! use them at home and at work, automatically links to your phone via a QR code, and no need to set up ddns , literally plug and play ( watch)

@lived666, we did not know what this stuff went for, just went to china mall, figured R5000 is a good price and just went ahead.

its ok, we happy

he wants to spend no more than R1500, that kit on bidorbuy will be ok, just expect to get what you pay for, but it will be ok, it will do the job and later when you have more moola you can always upgrade a camera or two.
