I had my mac book pro for 6 years and suddenly the battery started giving me issues of not charging and the power cord started splitting close to the magnet connection so i had both items replaced at the istore in sandton, anyway the new battery never lasted . I am back to using the old battery because the newly purchased just says not charging and when the battery compltely dies off and then i try charging it takes a few hours to charge and switch on again. The old battery ha to be plugged in all the time , the moment i switch off the power cord within 5 mins the battery is down 50% . Not sure why it is losing power and why new battery is not charging. Any suggestions?

Try Coconut Battery and see what it says...

With coconutBattery you're always aware of your current battery health. It shows you live information about your battery such as how often it was charged and how is the current maximum capacity in relation to the original capacity your battery had when it left the factory.

You are also able to save the current maximum capacity of your battery. So you can see the changes of your battery health over time.

there was a big battery recall a while back & you machine's age seems to match.

google it - apple battery recall, or whatever.

there were serial number (battery) batches that were recalled.

it was another silent apple recall !!!
