Sleep Deprivation

I need sleep. It is now 22:40 and I am going to go to bed instead of firing up "just one quick round" of BF2. Last night I think I got to bed at about 02:00 (had a great many rounds), but its ridiculous. So, I am going to get tough and actually go to bed tonight. I think I need a badge for this! It's difficult, because as I am typing this I know there people having fun on the servers... Right now.... Fun... Without me! but I need to shut down now... I will shut down now... I am shutting down now... I am not alone...

A friend of mine and I started up a local server last night, and we were mucking about with planes & choppers and the like, mostly on kubra dam, and a little while on gulf of oman. Got some good practise time in. My chopper flying has GREATLY improved after experimenting with different control methods. I now have something that I'm very comfortable with.

Also got to practise bombing, which I've gotten better at too, considering that I have NEVER gotten a bombing kill while playing ranked :p

good place to practise is on the GZ server, no-one seems to realise it's there, and you can do what you like before the game starts - ie - the game never starts . . .

Any idea's as to why the local servers don't show up in the server list anymore?

Me sawed the funniest thing last night - man oh man - ROFL ROFL ROFEL rofelllllling ping.

Picture it - that "demo" map, the right hand flag where the flag is next to the pool.
I'm lying behind the AA ground missile gun thing (Waiting to hear a chopper incomming).
I notice the flag goes white, kneel to lookover the sacks of sand, and lo and behold:
5 [probably] teamies are standing in a line on the paving next to the pool.
But - then the one at the back crouches, stands up, crouches, stands up.
Then the one in front of him starts crouches, stands up, crouches, stands up.
Then the one in front of him starts crouches, stands up, crouches, stands up.
We now have three boppers in a row and it really looks like they're doint it to some rave style tune...
.

Maybe they were playing Space Invaders?

No matter how hard I try I cannot fly those damn choppers

Love those choppers. I'm a decent flyer and I use the keyboard only.

Planes are a different story though. I can fly them, I just can ever kill anyone or anything

Re: Chopper flying

I initially started out using the keyboard, which worked ok. Then tried my joystick (sidewinder), but found it to be much too erratic (Friend of mine flies with joystick, he loves it), so I went back to keyboard for awhile. I still sucked pretty badly though, but I got used to manuevering the transport choppers, low flying, following roads, dodging trees and the like, but I found the attack choppers were VERY difficult to fly, because they were so quick.

Anyway, when I was mucking about the other night, I decided to give the joystick a try again for awhile, and realised that I *still* hated it.

So I tried the mouse. Set the sensitivity to about 8, played around with the pitch & yaw, settled with each one on 7, and now I fly like a champ. You get a really smooth flight using the mouse.

Honestly, the sensitivity option doesn't seem to do too much to the controls... it's definitely the pitch & yaw setting that makes a big difference.

Re: Plane flying

I use the joystick exclusively for planes. My dog fighting skills are not too horrible, I've shot down quite a few planes & choppers. My bombing needs work tho, but it's improved with practise. I just haven't yet had a chance to try out my new found skills on a live server ;)

man flying a chopper with a joystick is easy specially if it has a twist

dog fighting is hard because if its a good pilot you will lock but never hit, i dont bother dog fighting i just do bombing runs unless the guy is after me then i will attack him

its hard to shoot ppl down, its hard to shoot me down once you hear someone is locked on start twisting and move every which way till they outta missiles then they leave

I find the Mouse/keyboard works best for armour and choppers, but totally sux for planes.

I haven't tried mouse for planes, and don't want to ;) I'm very happy with my joystick for that.

i find kamakazi's lame

meaning of kamakazi:

people who are to lazy to try and figure a way to take other things out

lame in my opinion and down right annoying

if you not gonna fly with the intension of taking ppl out in nice way stay on the ground

and let ppl who knows how to fly , fly
