Battlefield 3 Update

Hi Everyone,

Just got BF 3 (pc) to play with friends, only to realise it requires a 4gb patch...my Cell C cap is 3Gb. Is there any way of running the game without having to download the patch?

I already tried copying the update folder from one friend, but that does not work.

How about the whole game folder?
Does the new expansion contain the patch?

I cannot even play campaign without it going to the update installer...

Reminds me again why is switched to consoles a long time ago...

Consoles also get the huge update.

You should be able to copy and paste the whole folder over, and just login with your own Origin account.
 
You can copy past the update folders, thats how I updated mine.
 
I did it the other day...
Copy the folder over (correctly)
Click on "install bf3". It will ooh and aah for a bit, then install at some blazing speed. It downloaded maybe 10MB.

I have gotten it to install the 14.9GB after I deleted all game installers. It does that at amazing speed. But after that it just defaults back to wanting to download the patch. I cannot even play the game without the update or get to the menu (could always at least get that far). The 4gb download appears fast but nothing super so I am afraid it is using 3G cap - which is already low from all the cancelled updates it wanted to do or that was running when i wasnt looking.

I will uninstall the game and try with a fresh install. What is the "correct" way? At what stage do I copy my friends update folder into the game folder?
