BB 9800 Torch Thread

Hi. Just a quick question. I got a BB Torch yesterday :) The only problem i seem to experience is general lagging. Not just from the trackpad (feels like I'm dragging it a bit), but from the general screen as well (seems slow). Now I have a Samsung Galaxy - so not sure if I'm just comparing the two. But I've read a lot of complaints about the trackpad. Also, someone suggested using a cloth an then trying the trackpad - and they're 100% right - it works much much better! Should I take the phone back or are all Torch's giving the same problem?

my trackpad sucks, but i have very little lag..

Browser etc

Has anybody had trouble downloading files in the 12-20 mb range? maybe once or twice out of all the times i tried will it complete it otherwise it will show download failed with no error code. Also as opposed to storms whenever i try to download something bigger than 30 mb it wont stop me (by saying request too large) eventhough it will fail anyway. When it does fail at times the BIS seems to be perfect while downloading so could it be some permissions interfering? Also if i download an official ( but not vodacom) OS will it void the warranty? Also where can i get the original .246 OS that came with the phone? The .337 OS eats my battery and has less memory. Thanks.

Sayf1233, Vodafone UK currently have .246 available on their site. But rather check what's running on your BB - .337 giving less battery than .246 sounds odd. Memory usage depends entirely on what you've installed along with the OS. I wouldn't go back to .246 if you paid me to. .337 is way superior.

Thanks i done a security wipe (including app) and reinstalled .337 will see what standby time is.

Just read that the Torch along with OS 6 have BIS 3 which have no download limits.

Can i replace the phone since my downloads are not completing or is the warranty void because of the update?

Since the OS is user-upgradeable by design, they can't void your warranty on the phone. However I don't know if downloads not finishing is in fact a warranty issue.

I should be getting my third Torch under OBF replacement this Friday and hopefully it'll be a keeper. The first issue was an unresponsive trackpad that required multiple swipes to get from one point to another, second problem was a loose slider that was too irritating to live with. I know the looseness is not normal as a family member has one that is absolutely perfect and the slider feels tight as a button.

My advice to anyone getting this phone it to test it extensively in the shop before accepting it as there seem to be some quality control problems.

Collected my torch today and I must say that, touch wood, mine is perfect. Slider is tight and the touchpad appears to be behaving itself. I am very relieved after reading about all the OBF's on here.

I want to update my torch's software 6.0.0.246 to the new one but they say the new one is not avalible can anyone help??

This is unbelievable that South Africans are getting this Shi*!

I already bought 7 BB Torches for friends through an American company on eBay (They only cost R3700). They are all unlocked.

All seven are working perfectly and never had any problem with them - nothing!

It seems that all rejected phones are shipped to SA and givento vodacom, mtn and cellC

I have the clacky noise on my back key - it started on day 7 out of the box. It was initially irritating but I have got used to it and only hear it in a completely silent environment. The likely cause is that the top panel has become unseated off the actual button underneath and because the adhesive still has stickiness, wheb you press the back key is sticks back for a split second and then releases again.

Now let's see. You know exactly how many Blackberrys have been sold in South Africa. You also KNOW that all of them were defective. I think not. And you base whole SA statistics on your 7 phone experience?

Please PM me your details so that I can immediately buy a reliable Blackberry from you - NOT!

I had it on my initial phone and my OBF (out of the box). Its extremely irritating. I think Ive also learnt to live with it tho.

I got my Torch this morning and it's PERFECT! No defects at all.

I've got a message notification that doesn't want to go away. It says 3 with a yellow globe next to it. Where can I clear these messages???

Thanks.
