BBBEE Verification Candidate rewards?

Its depends under which crtiteria they are "using" you. Are they claiming non-white representation as part of the normal workforce, as part of management or part of ownership(if as you claim you are a member of a trust in the company).

It is only under ownership that you can expect additional benefit eg. profit sharing or dividends received. Under the other 2 categories you are just an employee of the company and cant expect any additional benefit because you are assisting the company with their BBBEE status.

If they are claiming you have ownership in the company and you don't, you are participating in fraud and one way or the other you should resolve that. Either by taking some ownership as promised, or by refusing to continue to play this role.

Assuming you are a regular employee and this isn't really extra work, I don't reckon you have much scope to ask for cash.

It would be seen as a form of rent seeking. People don't warm to that. At best you get something out but you pay for it with your social capital i.e. relationship with colleagues and future prospects.

Basically you would be a microcosm of the whole country which pays a price relative to peers for having these policies in the first place.

Guys I’m white so I don’t contribute to the BBBEE status of my company. In fact I probably push it in the wrong direction.

Should I be penalized for this? I have a stable position and get a market-related salary, but I’m not being actively punished for being white. Is this correct? Should I bring this up or would that just ruffle too many feathers?
If you want to be PC you should go to your boss and say you are the wrong race and ask if you can quit or work for free to allow for more BEE.

Thanks. This is good to know. I'll find out in which capacity I am being used. I suspect as normal workforce.

Lekker BEE and AA!

I am wondering, if I develop an ingrown toenail which causes huge discomfort when I walk, requiring the use of a cane, will I qualify as disabled? And then can I extort the company for a raise?

Does anyone here actually have any advice? Or is this a troll forum?

Thanks saor. I'll just leave it rather that ruffle a few feather.

My one colleague once told me. "A squeaky wheel gets oiled." And at the moment, not of us are ruffling any feathers.
Unless you have a share in the business, it is illegal what they are doing and you are equally aiding in that by going along with it. Ownership is a mandatory requirement for verification.

Now ownership can be done 2 ways. Either through physical ownership (i.e. the business sells you shares) or through a ESOP trust (Employee Share Ownership Programme). If they do have a trust then you need to be a recognized and registered beneficiary of the trust.

The whole mentorship thing is irrelevant as that falls under the skills development category of the verification.

But according to some experts on this forum, no business will ever seek to exploit their workers to their own benefit. So, this must all be above board. Can't be window dressing.

I think this what they are claiming. They have mentioned that I will become the beneficiary of the trust. But nothing has been signed by me officially yet. Always promising to add me every year 1 March.

If I become the beneficiary of the trust, what would I be entitled too?

My issue is I have heard of people getting decent profit share and additional bonuses for their help in the company maintaining its BBBEE status.

The company had had about a 2 to 3 year slump but this year it will be booming again. And it might be the right time to approach the CEO.
This, my fellow MyBB's, perfectly sums up the issue with BBBEE!

It doesn't add jacksh*t to the economy, creates red tape and builds expectations of free remuneration based purely on skin color!

OP -> if you are being used purely as the 'scapegoat' for ensuring BBBEE status for the company, just demand more perks, incentives and money and if they don't give it to you, go to the media, tag the EFF and ensure you get a hefty sum paid out to you when the company shuts down after the insurance pays out for the 'accidental arson post EFF' visit.

I'd ask for at least some compensation when they require that I bring my own pencil..

If they haven't added you yet, then you are just being used as a front man. Even if they pay you X/month it is still fronting and illegal.

I can't see why a non-ownership employee would need to attend a verification.

You will be entitled to the same rights as a shareholder so voting rights and profit sharing, albeit voting rights are handled by the trustees as proxies for the beneficiaries.

Just note that if the trust is newly set up, you will likely not receive any financial benefit for some years as the trust needs to pay back any monies received to cover the shares it had to buy.
