So, I've been watching this channel on and off since its launch. I'm not a constant television watcher, I would rather browse mybroadband to be honest, but this channel is very very cool.

They've got a show called "the human mind" or "the human race", not quite sure.

I saw an episode last week where they did trials on school children that were performing badly at school. Other than the usual approach to these kids, they gave them Fish Oil, or rather aptly called Omega 3.

Within a few weeks the kids started performing better, actually reading books and getting involved with their school work.

So what did I do? I bought myself some Vital Salmon Oil - Omega 3 for R50, don't know how many tablets are in it.

I won't say I've had major epiphanies or renewed interests, since I got it Friday, but I must say I'm not feeling worse either.

I took 2 tablets 3 times a day on the first day and scaled it down to 1 tablet 3 times a day the next day and so on.

I guess we'll see if it works to "open" my mind :p

Yea, just don't want any1 corporates getting unecesary praise for their products.

What happenend to being satisfied with the money you make off the public?

love bbc knowledge... great channel, used to watch a lot of national geographic, but bbc knowledge has much nicer content, maybe cos its still new here and the re-runs havent hit yet :)

Was on Omega 3,6 and 9 a few months ago. Skin and eyes looked better and clearer but how one measures if they're more aware and intelligent I dunno...

What's the gauge? The number of crosswords you finish?

Isn't fish oils suppose to be good for muscles?

I couldn't care less about Vital or not. If I find a cheaper Omega 3 alternative, then I'd buy that.

They do show reruns a lot I'm afraid, even if it's new.
I can do it faster, and cheaper, with a crowbar :D
:p

Don't know, I guess it's improved focus etc.

The brain is a muscle, so I guess so :p

In general fish / flaxseed oil is good for you. Maybe the oil adjusted some of the imbalances in their diet, and that had the effect? Didn't watch the show, maybe they covered this angle?

Omega 3 and Omega 6 are Essentail Fatty Acids (EFA's), and are crucial for development in children and critical for general organ health. The general human diet is relatively rich in Omega 6, but far less rich in Omega 3. The human body does not produce its own. (Interestingly, nor do fish - they accumulate it from their diet)

However, it's not adviseable to overindulge (too much of a good thing is a worse thing), as there are known health risks associated with over use.

Fish oil also contains another highly beneficial acid, namely DHA. Also known as cervonic acid, this is the most abundent EFA in the brain. A deficiency in DHA in the brain has been linked with reduced brain function - particularly cognitively. This actually ties in quite nicely with the OP's post, showing that Omega 3 Fatty acids (and especially DHA) may very well improve brain function.

So, there is definitely a lot of truth that Fish is brain food. ;)

Forget everything else, they have Top Gear (even if there are quite a few older episodes)! :D

The doses they use in these child experiments are fairly hectic. Far more than what the bottle says.

Haha, I see a pattern developing. I also mostly watch Top Gear. First thing I do when I get home is to put it on BBC K to see if there's Top Gear happening... and I don't even like cars!
