BBM for Android, iPhone available this week

Doubt it is the legit version, lots of fake ones up at the moment.

Version 1.0.0.42 is definitely legit, chatting easily to BBM contacts. Didn't get from play store though.

I am excited for BBM to come to iOS and Android. My Whatsapp contacts are prepared to try it and if its as good as it is on BB 10 then they will make the switch permanent.

And to those who said the BB 10 devices are crap, I will just answer by saying my Android device is in the draw, I gave my Lumia 800 to my gran and my Z10 and my Q10 take turns being my phone of choice. For me its BB 10 and nothing else. Hell my contract will be upgraded soon and the Android device I get from it will be kept in its box.

Only irritating thing is that there is a permanent bbm notification to say that I'm connected. As if in 2013 we need to be notified that we're online.

Downloaded it earlier, got stuck at the setup phase. Thought it was fake, so deleted it. Re installed it, still stuck at the setup page. How did guys get past this?

The version I got hooked up just asked me to log in using blackberry ID, which I set up a few days ago. Just logged in using email and password and it assigned me a PIN automatically.

Like I said before, do not put your hopes on anything coming from RIM. History speaks for itself and has never been proven wrong before.

This company has never, ever released any product or service on time.

However, this time around I do not think there will be any time left for them to finish this app and release it. The company will be closed down or sold before this happens.

Looking at what has happened here, I will not be surprised if no other company or investors are not interested in buying the BBM leg of RIM at all.

I don't think Blackberry is completely responsible for the problems this time. If reports are to be believed their plans for a staggered rollout were hampered by impatient android users clogging up the system with a leaked version.

Precisely bwana, that was the reason behind this, and looking at the report the problem occurred with Android users and the leaked Android app.

They clearly stated 1.1m users signing up initially. Their servers were unable to handle the apparent load.

In fact, it is now just becoming more clear that this whole project is a fail. I do not think the company has the funds or backup anymore to expand on their servers in bringing this project to life.

I am sure, that at the time you have a version which is almost ready for rollout, that your servers will be able to handle any expected load - and not cause problems when a mere 1.1 million users start using it....

I am with House on this one.

Yes the leak may have added load but the real issue is that their servers was not ready for this roll out. Bad planning if you ask me. For a co that sold 3.3 million phones in an entire quarter most of them repeat customers I recon 1.1 million sign-ups in a couple of hours would be a number that they not use to. In fact here is where I praise Google for their brilliant invites system. All they should have done to get the service rolled out in a manner that they can monitor and controle I would have opted for activate/install on invite only for now. So what if you had a leaked app (No invite sorry no account for you).

Also if the leak was the problem it would have paid to open the official faster, so less people use the leak.

This whole thing smells of bad management from start to finish. Hell I don't even think they have a plan to make money out of this service.

The iOS one looks like the bbm from bb10
