Hello chaps :),

So I renewed one of my contracts late last year with a BB 9780, got used to the messenger. My primary number is on the iPhone which comes with a 150meg data bundle. So here I am moving around with two phones :(. MTN will charge me about R 236.00 for a sim swop so that I can move my primary number to the BB and have a micro sim on the iPhone, there's no way to move only the 150meg bundle over too :(.

So my query is, is there any way I can have a bb messenger on my iphone? I've searched the net and there's no app available for bbm as it's proprierty based  My iPhone is not jail broken and I don't intend doing it, but will have to if need be.

Thank you all in advance for your assistance :)

Edit: I've heard of the sim adapter and would like to know where I can get it.

Unfortunately there is no bbm app for the iPhone. There was a rumor that they would launch a bbm app for iPhone, but it was only a rumor.

wow... I can't believe I fell for this.

They day they release BBM for iPhone or Android will be quite easy to tell... just look outside and you will see lots of people running around jumping for joy.

Also loads of 8520's smashed on the floor.

BIS and BBM are the 2 main reasons to buy a BB, BIS more of a draw card in SA considering our high data costs. I would imagine BB are protecting the BBM concept like their lives depended on it... cause it does...

I got a sim adapter at a vodacom shop.
Comes with a plastic thingy to adapt a microsim to a mini sim, and templates for cutting your mini-sim into a microsim.
R30 if I remember right.

Ah, this sound promising :). Now would my 150meg service the messenger i.e would it be enough?

I hardly ever use the net on my iPhone, have 4meg uncapped @ home.

You want to put the 150meg contract sim into the BB?

You'll need to enable BIS on it afaik, otherwise BBM won't work.

Oh yes, I can move the BIS to the 150meg contract, but then the MTN agent said one can never make use of the data once moved :(

Well, you can. Not all BB apps use BIS, (eg, Opera Mini), so you could use it for that.

Yes of course, one has to use the BB browser for BIS, thank you very much Sinbad :). So with this adapter from Vodashop I can cut the present BB sim to fit the iPhone and the present iPhone micro sim to ordinary sim for the BB?

Yup.
Just be careful with the cutting - you could destroy the sim. But it's not difficult, I got it right first time.

If they released it and charged for it can you imagine how much money they'd make!

Not only that, the major draw-card for BB is that all communication is encrypted, even text messages. That is why goverment officials all over the world use them. That is why some Asian governments wanted to ban BB because they couldn't spy on users communication.

I doubt they could charge more than whatsapp $2 per year as whatsapp works like a champion and already has huge market share.

Short answer: NO.
Long Answer: NOOOOOOO

Thing is though, BB users are more inclined to use BBM over Whatsapp. I look around at my mates last weekend.. of the 13 only 2 of us didn't have blackberrys. I reckon even a $5 once off fee for a BBM app would sell.
