BBM, MXit, WhatsApp get new competitor in ZiNG

Can't get my pin on 8ta .. lame :T

That said, I'm interested to give it a go :)

Yay. Another IM app. People have just started using whatsapp, after more than a year of being available.

This one works on non-smart phones so prepare to see a watsapp java client or see Zing replace watsapp as the preferred platform. I don't like the ad idea though - more bandwidth.

I use Whatsapp, and would jump ship if they launched a PC version. Until then, no way.

hi - there seems to be a delay in delivering SMSes today (probably a network provider issue) - please email me on [email protected] with your cellphone number and I will retrieve it for you. Enjoy!

hi Shaun - synchronise your address book and your friends will receive a free SMS inviting them to join you on ZiNG. Enjoy! Alternatively use the "quick add" option to select who you want to invite. Cheers

@ Zing Support. Gonna mail you my number....please can you check why I am not receiving my pin?

Never mind...just saw your earlier post. I have already mailed my number to you guys. Tnx

Whatsapp well on its way to world domination. All that's missing is VoIP. Once that's incorporated it will make it untouchable...

Nimbuzz has got it all. Never bothered with anything else. Push to talk and VoIP is the way to go. My extended family saves a fortune. Regardless where in the world you are, VoIP rocks :D

+1

There's just no way I'm getting another IM client.

I think that sums it up. People are not willing to move easily from a set IM client. I tend to feel the same. It is good to standardize on one platform that everyone can uses instead of having clusters of people on different IM clients. Whatsapp seems to be leading the way. Lets all standardize on it. Whatsapp is working fine with a great interface.

Agreed.

The problem with all these IM apps is the market becomes diluted with them which in turn has a negative impact on the success of any one of the products.

IE when BBM was the only viable cellular based IM app, BB flourished. Now with competition in this field BBM and BB is suffering. But the point is what of market saturation and when does it start becoming counter productive???

Chat on, iMessage. Whatsapp, Viber, Verbs, IM+ and half a dozen others all competing for a chunk of the market and what makes any IM app successful?? Membership and subscriber base. Here is where Whatsapp is making huge inroads making it the most viable IM app for most users.

Not receiving my log in PIN. *sigh*.

Do these people not test their service before they frekking launch? That Samsung one..think its called ChatOn had the same problem iirc when they launched.

Tested it last week without any issues on Android, including the PIN. However, the Apple app I would rate as Beta release.

This makes a good alternative for people who do not have smartphones. I myself still have a Sony Ericsson Walkman series, giving this a shot.

Where do you get this crap from? FB spam? Whatsapp spam?

actually when you sign up, if you bothered to read what you were agreeing to, it said the first year is free, there after you pay. Its not much, a dollar or two, which I dont mind, depending on HOW you have to pay for it.

Way too many IM apps out there. These are already out there for android users (of which i know):
  • Beluga
  • Whatsapp
  • Gtalk
  • Skype
  • Viber
  • Facebook chat

I wont use this one simply because i have too many already, and its only available in a limited number of countries. Doesnt really set itself apart from the others (except the click ad piece, which i dont intend doing anyways)

What we really need is an IM app which can consolidate across other apps (probably easier said then done).
